Small Appliance You Use the Most/Least

You’re right that pressure cookers aren’t magic, but I really like mine. Even if it doesn’t save much time, it’s a set and forget vs. having to check, tend, stir on the stove top. Just yesterday I used both the pressure cooker and the blender to make smooth hummus. While the chickpeas were cooking in the pressure cooker, I blended lemon juice, tahini, garlic and cumin. As soon as the chickpeas were done, they were added to the blender and a few seconds later I had hummus that’s tastier and healthier than store bought with little work on my part.

And I realize it’s a totally hick move (and my kids tease me mercilessly for it) but I also like my pressure cooker because I can leave it outside when I either don’t want to heat up the house or need to go somewhere but wouldn’t want to leave the oven on.

Another keurig user. I have individual (single serve) keurig on every floor of the house. One misbehaved yesterday but it may have been because a houseguest didn’t operate it correctly. It was fine this morning.

I am another one that has never owned a blender.

I still use a slow cooker somewhat regularly. I don’t currently work, though when I was it was nice to throw a roast and some carrots or ribs and barbeque sauce in the slow cooker in the morning and have dinner about ready when I got home from work. I do the same now on Sundays, as my husband is a pastor and it is sometimes 12:30 or 1 pm before we get home from church. I don’t want to start cooking then, I want to be eating then!

We also use a coffee pot and microwave daily. H uses the toaster almost daily.

I rarely bake, so don’t use the hand mixer often but I like having it when I want it and it doesn’t take much room.

The toaster oven is something I should get rid of. I haven’t used it in years, though it isn’t in the way where it is stored and I forget about it.

I just bought a pressure cooker. It is still in its box. I grew up using one to can produce and I want to go to farmer’s markets next spring/summer to buy stuff to can. I never learned how to do anything else in it. It was on a great sale and it was only a few dollars, so won’t take much to get value out of it.

Most used appliances—Moccamaster coffee maker, coffee bean grinder, and Nespresso CitiZ Espresso machine.

Medium use: food processor

Least used: blender, Vitamix (unless son-in-law is visiting), Kitchenaid stand mixer, and rice cooker.

If you don’t count the microwave then I rarely use any small appliances. I probably use my toaster every other week. I am not a big kitchen person. I use a Korean barbecue pan to grill steak, fish, bacon, or just about anything.

I had to look up what a Korean barbecue pan is. So many varieties. In my kitchen, it most resembles my LeCreuset square pan with ridges.

I bake weekly, so mixer sits in corner. Also coffee maker and toaster oven. Everything else in lazy Susan or cabinet. There is a small chopper that muse weekly, but that is in lazy Susan.

H bought me a KitchenAid Mixer several years ago. I have used it twice.

The Keurig is in use daily.

Toaster and Keurig are used daily. The bread machine I bought MANY, MANY years ago gets used at least once a week (I make my own 100% whole wheat bread - but I bake it in the oven). I use the microwave several times a week.

My blender broke years ago, and I didn’t replace it. I have a Magic Bullet that is probably 20 years old, and I use that for smoothies, grinding spices, etc. It takes up a lot less space in a cabinet than a blender!

I’m surprised how many people have a Keurig.

I just ordered and received a new electric knife. My original wedding present one burnt out about two years ago. I rarely use it and thought I could live without it but really missed it last year when I had a big Hanukkah slicing job.

Used daily: Toaster oven, fits a pie plate or 9x9 pan for baking on hot summer days

Used occasionally and want to keep: Instant Pot, immersion blender, food processor, hand mixer

Used rarely and could go: blender, waffle maker, crock pot

Recently broke panini maker that was used but we don’t miss it

Never had: Stand mixer

Fun reading. Thanks for the thread.

We donated our crock pot and are donating our pot that’s like a big thermos. We rarely use immersion blender, blender,

Have never used electric stand mixer (was MIL’s wedding gift when they got married—so older than I am), cuisinart ice cream/gelato maker, pressure cooker (donated it).

Don’t have electric can opener nor electric kettle nor electric skillet nor foreman grill nor waffle maker—chaffles do sound intriguing.

H uses his coffee maker periodically—maybe once or twice/week. I use toaster over more than our full-size oven because it doesn’t heat our house. I mostly use it to reheat things, roast veggies and toast bagels.

The microwave is the most used. I’m the only one who uses the rice cooker, and I love it.
Food processor is the least used by far.

I forgot to mention the soda stream. I use it maybe twice a month because I want club soda. Would never add a flavor to it because they all have artificial sweeteners. Maybe some orange juice.

We have TWO rice cookers. When the kids were home, we used the small one about every other night. Now we use it several times a month. We use the large one for parties—makes 10 cups.

For me, the most used is the Nespresso, for the family it’s the toaster oven.
High on the list -
Hand mixer, Kitchenaid, air fryer, waffle iron, electric skillet (used for pancakes at least once a week)

Lower on the list but still used often enough-
Cuisinart, Blender, rice cooker, instant pot, crockpot, stick blender

Seasonal or rarely used, but won’t give away -
Lefse griddle, electric krumkake iron, coffee grinder, electric kettle

I forgot to mention that we use both the crockpot and rice cooker frequently.

This is the grill I use: https://www.amazon.com/TeChef-Stovetop-Non-Stick-Coating-Technology/dp/B00JT8ZYCS/ref=sxin_2_ac_d_rm?ac_md=1-1-a29yZWFuIGJicSBncmlsbA%3D%3D-ac_d_rm&crid=1A4UL0U9OY8ET&keywords=korean+barbecue+grill&pd_rd_i=B00JT8ZYCS&pd_rd_r=92d17ab0-ccfb-4f32-b1ac-05ad3e82a9e4&pd_rd_w=dakBo&pd_rd_wg=4SA9x&pf_rd_p=e2f20af2-9651-42af-9a45-89425d5bae34&pf_rd_r=D5MFHM10TP2STMPGHTZ6&psc=1&qid=1576328087&sprefix=korean+barbec%2Caps%2C149

My coffee pot, toaster oven and my micro - which I use several times a day to reheat the coffee in my cup. Yesterday the micro went kablooey so I had to run out and buy a new one - as I was lost without a way to reheat my cup. I even lugged it in by myself (and it’s a fairly big one) so I could reheat my coffee. The only other thing I use it for is to defrost.

My least used is Kitchenaid mixer. I only use it for making chocolate chip cookies. Probably 3 x year.

I haven’t used waffle maker or slow cooker in years and have never used my blender. I think kid used it a few years ago to make frozen margaritas.

I use my rice cooker almost daily to make oatmeal. Hardly ever for rice.

My stand mixer doesnt get a whole lot of use, but when it does, I am glad I have it. Same thing for my small food processor. It’s great to evenly chop onions and veggies or make sweet potato hash, etc.

I use my spiralizer (non electric) to make zoodles a lot. Same for my stick blender - use it for soups a lot.

The waffle maker should be donated. And I need to get some better crockpot recipes because I LOVE coming home to a cooked meal. The recipes I find are all pretty unhealthy it seems (Dump a can of cream-of-something soup on chicken).

I’m sad for all the unused, unwanted waffle makers… :frowning:

Did you get yours as wedding gifts? Use them when kids were home?

I covet weekend breakfast/brunch so I like a good buttermilk waffle or alternative waffle now and then.
