Small Appliance You Use the Most/Least

I had a small flat waffle maker years ago and never used it. It was hard to clean and didn’t cook evenly. Then we used a hotel waffle maker and I knew if I had one that flipped, I would use it. And I do- every week or two.

Most: Keurig/Nespresso, food processor, stand mixer, juicer, InstantPot (I use all of these either daily or several times a week)

Least: Waffle iron (only when kiddo is home), hot plate (wedding gift that I rarely use but love that I have it when I need it), bread maker (gift that was never used but can’t find anyone who wants it)

@ChoatieMom - what do you use the food processor for? I like mine but feel like i don’t use it often enough given its price tag. Ideas would be welcome.

@milee30

I use my food processor for dough or marinades.

@milee30: DH and I cook almost every day, and there’s hardly a recipe where it doesn’t come in handy for shredding, pulsing, blending, pureeing, etc. We make a lot of salsas, hummus, salads, soups, and sauces. Seems I’m always using the slicing/shredding disks. I use the stand mixer for yeast doughs, but I use the FP for cutting butter into scones, biscuits, and such. When we spent a summer in a rental a few years ago, I shipped the food processor ahead as I couldn’t see being without it. We gave one to our son last Christmas in advance of his graduation and move to an apartment. It was the top item on his kitchen wish list. I’ve had one since 1981, and it’s my primary kitchen tool. When I bought my first Cuisinart, my mother got the old Robot Coupe – she’s still using it. Honestly, I feel about my FP the way some people feel about their guns–don’t even think about taking it away from me. :slight_smile:

@surfcity we use our rice cooker daily to make oatmeal as well. I convinced DH to buy one with a timer 15 years ago so we could make oatmeal once in a while. Instead, he fell in love with it and has been making it every single day (well, really the night before and it starts cooking so it’s freshly ready in the morning). We make rice in it about once a month.

I use the food processor very frequently, to make hummus throughout the year and, in the summer, to make salad dressings with fresh herbs. I am much more likely to eat salads if I have a fresh salad dressing to use.

I use the crock pot once every two weeks or so to make yogurt. It probably doesn’t deserve its spot on our counter.
