Hi!
SO I’m taking classes over the summer so I can get ahead and earn my degree faster. I’m excited. BUT!! I’m taking an advanced programming class in Java and the class is only 6 weeks long. I’m fine with that. Problem is, it appears that there are only 7 students in the class, including myself. 7!!! I’m not used to a class being that small. I’m not the most social person ever and this is scaring the living daylights out of me right now, What can I expect in terms of awkwardness and how can I overcome it? And can I safely assume that the prof is only going to push us even harder due to the small number of students?
Thanks.
I see very little downside to a small class size in an advanced Java class. Students in such classes typically want/need more individualized time with their professor to figure out complex or sticky coding issues. Such a small class size would be potentially problematic in a Social Sciences discussion-based course, where there would be an insufficient number of viewpoints for a good discussion. However, programming classes are rarely discussion-based. They typically involve small group projects, and with 7 students, you still have enough to form 2 or 3 groups. If I were you, I’d be happy that the class wasn’t canceled for low enrollment.
