Small help needed with HP 40GS Graphing Calculator

Hello,

I recently bought an HP 40GS Graphing Calculator (pic below).

In the box of the calculator, this battery/cell/whatever came -

Now, what I want to know is… do I have to insert this into the Graphing Calculator? Or is this a backup cell and the calci already contains one? And if I do have to insert it… then where do I have to insert it?

The calci has this area for inserting the AAA cells and the small rectangular lid-like thing on top of the 4 cells is most probably where this goes… however, I am unable to open it. Any help?

You want page R-5 in the manual. If you do not have a manual (or if your manual is different), download [this file](http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00748685.pdf) and go to page 403 in the pdf.

I’m jealous - that’s a great calculator.

Thank you so much! I didn’t know there were alphabetically-named pages at the end… I just flicked through the manual and didn’t see anything. Although, don’t you think it would make much more sense if basis battery and cell info about the calculator should be at the start of the manual?

And lol, I am feeling smug. I am still trying to figure out the nuances of the calculator, but it is awesome. The CAS makes so many Math II questions a joke!
