I live in Nebraska and could get a regents to UNL. That being said, I’ve wanted to go to a smaller LAC in the northeast for a while. I’ve been looking at Hamilton, Bowdoin, Haverford, and a couple schools of that caliber. I’m not sure what I want to do yet, but it’s more than likely something in the physical sciences. I’ve seen lots of threads about top state Universities vs LACs, but UNL isn’t really that comparable to Michigan or Penn State. It’s possible that money could become an issue depending on the aid that those schools give. I also believe that LACs fit my personality better. Do you think that those two are comparable especially if I want to get a job more on the coasts?

Yes it will. You should ask your parents how much they can afford to pay for college each year. Here are some alternatives for some merit aid:

UNL is a fine school that is underrated based on its research $. I do understand wanting to go to a smaller school (both my Ds did). Also, check the Net Price Calculators on each school’s web site to see how much you might get for FA.

A solution for you would be to look for LACs similar to Haverford or Hamilton, but less selective. There are literally hundreds of schools between UNL and Bowdoin.
