We bought our house in 1996, and we have replaced each of the appliances over the years, a few of them twice. Only one of the originals still remains - the small microwave oven. I would like to replace it now, but there is a bewildering array of possibilities and most of them seem to go above the stove rather than under a cabinet. Does anyone have any suggestions? I’m looking for a basic unit, no convection or anything else.

Are the dimensions critical (i.e. there’s a notch in the cabinetry and the microwave goes there) or is it just hanging down from a cabinet? How about the mounting points?

We have a GE Profile Spacemaker II mounted under a cabinet. It replaced the Spacemaker I from 1996. The cooktop, double wall ovens and refrigerator are originals; only the D/W and M/W have been replaced but everything is bound to go soon. The M/W is not super strong but works fine for our basic reheating.

We just bought a microwave online from ajmadison. We had very strict space requirements as our cupboards are lower than standard.

They also had a few that mounted under cabinets as well.
( you can sort by height)

As far as I know only the GE Spacemaker II mounts under cabinet (1996 must have been a good year, that is when I put my original one in)…another brand might, but I wasn’t able to find any. Note, I had to drill some new holes, the mounting holes on my new microwave weren’t quite the same (the back holes were closer then the original holes were, but the spacing between the holes side to said was the same, thank goodness)

Thank you for all the suggestions! It looks like the GE is the one to get.

turbo, the one we have is mounted under a cabinet with bolts. So dimensions are not critical, except that I suppose it shouldn’t be too heavy and I don’t want it to hang down too far. It would be nice if the mounting holes for the new one matched the existing ones, but I expect that that will be too much to hope for!
