<p>Sometimes. It depends on which smaller, private colleges vs larger, private and public universities. If you look at the thread on schools with the most aid you will see both schools represented. For many excellent students, their state U is the best deal. Some kids can get a full ride or most of the tuition paid there depending on the state and the kids’ stats. Many private schools give only need based aid so if you are looking for merit money, you are pretty much out of luck there if your family EFC is too high.</p>
