English Lit is fantastic at Yale. However, you aren’t really going to find “semi-rural to suburban setting” with much “stuff to do on weekends.” I.e. you can’t have a lot of stuff to do on weekends and be in the middle of nowhere unless the “stuff to do” is hiking and similar activities.

However, I would deemphasize WishyWashy’s post. I really don’t like intense urban environments (Columbia/NYU scared the **** out of me) and to me Yale doesn’t feel urban. Why? Well, a couple main things… 1) Yale is a well-contained campus (i.e. city doesn’t spillover into campus) with many courtyards and its own spacious areas. 2) New Haven is a very small city as far as cities go.

I encourage you to check out the campus on your own and see if you could handle it. FYI, Yale has gone to great means to make the campus quite safe and it definitely is very comfortable!

Probably apply and get in before visiting because – not to be snotty – but most of the ppl on the tours don’t get in anyway and it costs some money to visit the East Coast from Tennessee.
