Has anyone used this service? I’m just about ready to hit the “send” button on my registration with them, and thought I’d check with the boards first…
Thanks…

I’m using them. They’re picking up on Monday. We’ll see how it goes.

good luck… I chickened out and sent it regular UPS. I found it difficult to deal with a company who never answered their telephone.

Yes, I had trouble getting through for two days but after that they always answered the phone. (I had a complicated situation and had to call multiple times.) The owner was very nice and finally gave me his personal cell phone number. Well, I hope they perform as advertised and deliver right to the dorm room. I’ll report back.

I had some “issues” with Smartmovers… incorrect address… incorrect insurance charge (or lack thereof). Double credit card billing. So I cancelled them, even tho the promise of in-room delivery was tempting, and signed up with Collegeboxes.com. They, too, sent the wrong # of labels (3 instead of 4). After many frustrating calls, and advice from the GW mail center to avoid these services & use UPS direct, I did just that… but at the 11th hour… the day of the scheduled pick up. I have to say, though, that Collegeboxes had the NICEST people in customer service, and we probably will use them for summer storage. In retrospect, it was kind of silly for us to use any of these services, since my husband’s business has a UPS account, and it took all of 5 minutes to schedule at-home pick up of all 4 boxes with their online service. I generally am not so indecisive… this was a major departure for me.

Well, Smartmovers sent me the correct labels and picked up on Monday as promised. Now I hope the boxes are waiting in my D’s room when we arrive. In our case, it was really worth it to use a service that would deliver directly to the room. My daughter had 6 boxes, 3 of which are so big and heavy that I think we’d have trouble getting them up to her room from the dorm’s storage room (one is a hanging wardrobe box)! Otherwise, I’d agree it’s easier to send using UPS directly.

We had a disastrous experience with these people. They lost three boxes sending them from school to our home last year, and this year they failed to deliver all eight boxes stored with them. Calls are answered by a voicemail that says “mailbox full” – you can’t get anyone on the phone. My daughther’s school has advised us they are terminating their relationship with SM because many of their students had not received their stored items, and Boston College has also fired them, according to another post on this site. That post indicated that SM also doews not honor its insurance claims.

Well, I consider myself lucky then. My D’s 6 boxes were picked up and delivered to her room on time and as promised. As for the insurance, I don’t think SM insures the boxes. They’re insured by UPS, but only up to $999 each, since there is a third party involved. Any additional loss per box should be covered by the parent’s homeowners. It’s too bad some people seem to have had trouble, since it was really convenient having the boxes deliverd right to the dorm room.

My S is still waiting for his boxes that were supposed to be delivered end of July - in NYC - from smartmovers. He has made 8 phone calls and sent 3 emails. After getting help from his school, he did get a response from them, with UPS tracking numbers. Those numbers showed up on the UPS site as having been delivered to someone in Massachusetts.

I don’t have anyone at GWU - found this thread by searching for “smartmovers problems”. I sure hope the boxes show up. He bought $500 worth of insurance, and we also have him covered with a student policy, but it would be a pain to replace everything. Meanwhile, he’s living in an apartment with a bare mattress and borrowed towel. He, atleast, will never use them again.
