smartphone app counts as community service?

I’ve been working with a team to create a smartphone app that’s designed to help blind people travel in an easier and safer way, and in the process of doing so, we also visited a center for blind people many times in order to understand what exactly they need/want and for feedback. Does this somehow count as community service?

Yes, it counts as an EC. If you’re volunteering, I’d say you could count it as community service… but it depends on how you spin it.

Yes. If you aren’t paid. However, even if it were not “community service,” it would still be an extracurricular

Community service? Eh. EC, certainly.

Do you expect to charge people for purchasing the app?

probably not, i just want to distribute it to help the visually impaired without charging them, but my team might think differently…

Why do you care whether it counts as community service?

Do you need community service hours to graduate? If so, the only opinion that matters is the one you get from your school.

If this is about college applications, colleges really don’t care how many community-service hours or projects you’ve done.
