Which one is your go-to device? If you have all three how do they each fit in your lifestyle or work?
I have never been interested in games on a PC because it was hard for me to get them to work properly, but when I purchased my first tablet I played chess and a water jet ski game often. I purchased the tablet to read e-books and did much of that until recently. The smartphone is just for checking the weather report and reading news reports while commuting or away from home, and for photographs on the go (I prefer a digital camera for the really important stuff). And course, I need the phone for phone calls. LOL. I never play games or do any real computing on my smartphone. I wait until I get home to check emails on the Laptop. I get too much spam to use the tablet or phone for emails.
I don’t have a tablet. I use the laptop when I am at home/office the phone when I’m out and about. The only game I play is Scrabble. I play more on the laptop, but if I’m standing in lines I’ll play a move or two while waiting. Sometimes I check my facebook alerts. I don’t do Twitter or Instagram. I never go to CC on my phone since the pop up ads locked the phone. I check my gmail on the phone (which gets very little spam) but rarely the other ones. I’ve done the NYT crossword on my phone, but much prefer using the laptop or pencil and paper. I do often read Rex Parker’s blog about the NYT on the phone, or more accurately on dh’s phone, on the days we do it together.
I binned my laptop ages ago and only use my iPad now. I do way more on it than my IPhone. I take my iPad with me when I go to dr appts or anyplace I’m going to be sitting around waiting because I like to play spider solitaire and I don’t enjoy playing it on a small screen. I find a lot of internet sites on my IPhone a PITA to use. CC, for instance, makes me log in every time on it, but not on my IPad.
I don’t get any spam mail on either. It all goes into known or suspect email folders.
I use my PC when I have to really write something as a I prefer a full keyboard for that. I also use it when I’m planning to print, or for paying bills. I use my tablet when I’m lounging in the living room or kitchen. I use my phone when I’m out of the house. I never get any spam email on any of my devices.
I rarely use our laptop, mainly for some work-related self training. An iPhone handles my needs outside of home. I prmarily use an iPad at home for email, browsing, reading, news, etc. I use the phone and iPad for nearly all my book reading during the year, moreso the iPad lately.
iPhone for checking work emails. Texts from work. Texts from kids. Several apps that I use daily. One is a ToDo list.
Audible is another one. Nameorize. Maps. There are more. I rely heavily on my phone, like a personal assistant.
I work on a Mac desktop at home. I need the large monitor to allow more than one program open, multiple document viewing, etc. It’s much more difficult to work on my laptop due to the smaller size of the monitor.
I use my laptop for work less frequently. But, it’s in my work bag just in case I need it when I’m out and about, or at a meeting. If I’m online shopping, it’s often on my laptop.
I rarely use my iPad. It’s an older model and slow now. I used to use it primarily for Netflix or Amazon. I haven’t been watching anything, so I don’t miss it.
I use my laptop at home, my tablet when I’m traveling, and my phone for everyday travels or when the tablet is too cumbersome to carry. I typically prefer the most convenient device with the largest screen (I’m getting old).
My phone- calls, photos, email, texts, Facebook. Laptop - typing, photo editing, messaging conversations where I want to type fast, banking, browsing. iPad- reading at bedtime, spider solitaire.
I used to use my desk laptop for all my work and pleasure. But since I got an iPad last year I rarely use my desktop. I’m enjoying lounging around on the couch getting everything done. I never developed the habit of taking the laptop off the desk because the battery never lasted longer than an hour.
Phone is always around and goes in my pocket. But I like my Android tablet plus a keyboard with a slot it fits in (not a case with a soft keypad.) EZee to type on and the tablet is propped up for watching online movies or tv. Since I got it, I rarely use the laptop, only to print.
At work, desktop work computer and my phone for texting and checking some social media.
At home, no desktop. My current iPad is so old I only use it occasionally for car games when traveling or basic stuff - surfing is SLOW. I use my MacBook Air in the evenings on my lap when I’m puttering - like now. I overall use my phone the most - for social media, calendar, looking up recipes, etc. I do find now that I upgraded to an iPhone 8+ (the larger size) that I enjoy using the phone more - the bigger size has been a win for me. I also use my phone for all podcasts and music when I’m running or walking.
Each family member uses devices differently:
A: iPhone & iPad - iPad is primary use for email & browsing. iPhone for calendar, talk, text, a chat. Work Laptop for work.
B: iPhone, Macbook Pro, Macbook : Macbook for browsing, eMail and Travel. Macbook pro w external 4K monitor for work and content creation. iPhone for calendar, talk, text, alarm, bedtime reading and exercise.
C: iPhone, Macbook Pro - iPhone for text and calls. Macbook pro for calendar, school, development
D: iPhone, Macbook Pro - iPhone for video creation, email, talk, text, chat. Macbook pro for video edits, email
I forgot, I now use phone camera for all my work stuff - mostly documenting as built conditions, but also photos of checks. And it’s my GPS. it’s changed my life! Getting to far flung jobs used to be a pain in the neck, but now it’s easy peasy.
Surface Pro - with a keyboard on, even when I am in bed. I find it perfect for both working and lazy internet browsing while lounging in our big round sofa. This is my workhorse. It lasted me through my professional school and did not let me down when I had to take a grueling licensing exam.
For everything else, I have my iPhone. The iPad - I have no idea where it even is. Probably in one of those boxes that we have not yet unpacked since moving.
I use my phone for Snapchat and phone calls when I’m at home. That’s because I use my iPad for everything else when I’m at home. So I do email, weather, games (hearts and sudoku), surf the net, watch Netflix or tv, keeping track of books I’ve read (in numbers) , my calendar, Facebook, Twitter, and texting.
Additionally, when I’m away from home, the phone is used for texting, driving directions, email, flight aware (when driving to an airport to pick up a daughter) and checking the net. I also receive news alerts from CNN and others on it. Because my iPad is only wifi compatible, I only use it for games, reading books, and watching downloaded Netflix episodes when away from home.
My laptop is my serious work heavy lifter. I use it when I have to do research and write with multiple windows available for reference or when I do spreadsheet work and file maintenance with clients. My iPad is the go to for all my email, browsing, news, games, and web site interactions such as shopping or travel. I also have a keypad with it. My phone is quick apps like weather, photos, instagram, texting, although I do some from the iPad, too. It is with me always, so it is gps, banking, They are all part of my day.
Just this week I got a new wider screen laptop, and it is lovely. I hope to work on photography with this new toy, so appreciate the nice screen and the data transfer that makes it like my old computer content wise. I had a number of months when the battery in my old laptop no longer worked. My posting on various boards decreased, as did the promptness of answered email. The I pad is great for my language and music related apps, newspapers and a lot of reading, but I can only write efficiently with a real keyboard.
My phone is older, but I appreciate the mapping features, the alarm, facebook, and the camera.
My add-on is a real keyboard. Look at Logitech k480. It’s roughly 8x12. I like it for the nice firm tap on the keys. Getting the tablet and this keyboard kinda revolutionalized things for me. Lighter, only a tad smaller than an 11.5" laptop, and you already know the screen is fine for reading or movies.
I wouldn’t use a tablet for any intense work or memory hog programs.
I used to use a Surface Pro (my husband and DS1 still do) but just got a Lenovo Yoga (DH by whatever we see on commercials for The Curse of Oak Island for me for Xmas). Microsoft conventions give away great swag and the Surface Pro was free one year, Xbox the next. DH and I are also probably the only people on the East Coast to have Windows phones because he worked with Microsoft products professionally and the phones integrated. Our boys have Androids. We also have a Kindle (which was mine) that DS2 has taken over because it doesn’t have parental restrictions set and he can surf late at night. DS2 and DS3 are given Chromebooks by their schools.
