Smith Food

Hi! Can anyone speak about the food situation at Smith? I’m applying early and I’m worried I won’t have anything to eat. I understand how the system works but is there always a basic option like pasta or something?

Each house or dorm has their own kitchen. I’m sure you will have something to eat. You can also eat at any of the 5 schools, and UMass has won the ‘best food’ award several times.

Not every House (Smith has no dorms per se) has its own kitchen, only those without dining halls. Smith is known for the food not being that great, but there are a lot of options every day. You’ll get an app and be able to see what dining hall is serving what food, then you can eat where ever you can find food you’d like to eat. If there’s no options you like (and I imagine this is pretty rare), Northampton has lots of restaurants like a five minute walk from campus.

You can only get a meal card at one of the other colleges in the consortium if you take a class there near mealtime.

Smith’s food is okay overall. Imo in general the flavor is good but the quality of ingredients used isn’t great. How the food is cooked also varies widely from house to house.

The Tyler dining hall serves pasta almost every single day. Additionally, all dining halls have a make-your-own salad bar.
