I am really 50/50 on these two schools please help. I really dont know which one to pick thanks. Money is not an issue here. So yeah!

Academically speaking, unless this is THE OSU (Ohio State University - Columbus), the obvious choice would be SMU. I am guessing you are most likely referring to OK State U in this case?!

I meant the ohio state university

major please?

SMU does not belong in the same conversation with OSU - OSU is BY FAR the superior institution

Engineering!

By far? Care to back up your assertion?

As an alum, I am flattered! :p

While ‘fliqer’ is certainly correct in terms of overall academic strength between SMU & tOSU (10 points different based on USNWR Undergrad Academic Reputation as well), I would suggest OP to visit both campuses if he/she could. Afterall, the vibe is very different between the two schools based on my visits (my cousin lives in Dallas). Columbus is very tOSU orientated (student-centric) in terms of major activities and liberal compared to SMU which is Methodist-affiliated (much more conservative imho). In addition to the fact that both campuses located nearby large cities (Columbus & Dallas, respectively), TOSU is some 7 times larger in terms of undergrad student bodies and 3 times larger in terms of graduate student bodies, which translates into lower student:faculty ratio at SMU. So, if OP prefers more individual learning environment, Ohio State’s GEC courses might be overwhelming at times. Also note that in terms of diversity, TOSU is definitely more diverse not only in racial / ethnicity sense, but also socio-economic sense than the student bodies at SMU.

Facilities-wise, academic-wise, faculties-wise, even job market-wise, Ohio State is indeed head and shoulder above SMU imho. I think I’ve covered enough tOSU’s engineering programs in the past, therefore, I do suggest OP to simply utilize the search function in this forum by typing in “Ohio State + Engineering” to learn more details. For now, I will just post a link to WSJ’s recruiting ranking for OP’s reference:

[School Rankings by College Major – Job Recruiter Top Picks - WSJ.com](http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703376504575491704156387646.html?mod=WSJ_PathToProfessions_MiddleTopHeadSumm)

Furthermore, there is also the weather factor between the two locations, Columbus has four distinct seasons, whereas Dallas is WARM throughout most of the year. So, it is really up to OP’s comfort level in terms of living environment. Last but not least, with the most experienced College President Gordon Gee at the helm, Urban Meyer coaching football and Thad Matta for basketball, and well over 525,000 living alumni network throughout the world, the combination at tOSU probably would be too good to pass imho in terms of an all-inclusive collegiate experience compared to SMU. Hope this helps! :)
