SMU vs UT for Pre Med

Please let me know your input regarding both schools & their Pre Med classes. I know UT is one of the best in Texas but need feed back regarding SMU. Hoping for good responses

heard SMU premed sucks, but UT is mad cutthroat

How about TCU or Texas Tech? Anyone from that colleges please let me know your experience regarding course work

anonemuss Did u attend SMU or UT?

UT has and amazing pre -med program! SMU is more notorious for its law and business schools.
From what I know from my older friends Texas Tech and TCU have quite manageable course work loads, while UT’s more intense.

My son is a TCU graduate (Biology) now going in to second year in med school. Had 5 in-state interviews and i out-of-state interview. Had a 33 on MCAT and about a 3.8 gpa. TCU has (I think) one of the highest med school acceptance rates in the state. The last stats I saw were about 80% (double national average). They are known in-state for not having grade inflation so the TX medical schools respect their science curriculum. My son had a very well-balanced (read…fun) college experience while successfully getting into medical school. To get into medical school you have to do very well on the MCAT and have a solid (especially in science) gpa, period. The other stuff is hype. The curriculum you should take is dictated more by where you want to apply (as requirements differ). The idea of pre-med at TCU is networking and support during early years and support during the application process. Pick the school you like, work hard and do well on your MCAT. AND, TCU is opening a med school in 2018 with 1/3 incoming from TCU undergrads.
