Did anyone ever subscribe to a snack service for their child in college? If so, please give me recommendations. Thanks! (we are just going to assume for now that she is going, LOL)
Why not just order snacks to be send via something like Amazon or Target or something? You can even do auto-send (like a subscription) for some items.
For my daughter’s freshman year we sent care packages with her favorite snacks and treats. For instance I have a friend who has a banana bread company and we had some breads sent, we sent a care package of granola and chocolate covered cherries from a cherry company, we’d send granola bars, apples (we live in the upper mid-west and apples are a thing in the fall and she loves them), microwavable oatmeals and muffins, nut butter packets, etc. However, for her birthday this year we got a subscription to a service that sends a box of healthy snacks because D generally like healthy things and likes to try new things. She’s been getting the boxes at home because of Covid and loves them and we’ll change the address once she’s back.
Most of the snack subscriptions I’ve seen are full of food I’d rather my kid didn’t eat. So no. (I’ll add that what many consider healthy snacks, I do not.)
The subscription snacks are also a very small size. You can do better through target or amazon (send a Lay’s mixed bag of chips, for example).
One daughter didn’t really like getting packages because the student mail room was across campus and she had to lug anything I sent back to her dorm. It also took much longer for her to get anything. I sent Popcorn Factory tins to 4 different colleges in 4 different states and they were delivered on Monday (a holiday) to Colorado and Wyo, Tues to California, and the one to Florida on Friday. Everything took longer to Florida.
We bought a subscription to Universal Yums for my son (he was in high school) and he loved it. If you are looking for unique snacks that would fit the bill.
I never did a subscription, but I sent several snack boxes from Amazon. There is a dizzying array of options, as you probably know. They were all well-received, and what she did not like, she shared with roommates and teammates. I sent a big box before finals, mid-terms, and when food service closed down but the team stayed to train. Besides my own homemade cookies, the most popular delivery was Tiff’s Treats–cookies with chocolate milk. I never found much difference between the options on Amazon, and I feel like I spent hours weighing options and reading reviews. It was not the best use of my time; they’re all fine!
I tended to make my own box out of costco snd other store items and send in USPS flat rate box. Thus way, I was better able to personalize the items for kid’s taste.
My daughter told me Venmo works really really well every time tried to send her something lol.
Harry & David was a hit with my health conscious kid.
One unusual but good suggestion is https://www.bokksu.com/ a place that sends Japanese treats straight from Japan. I have gotten this package sent to my daughter on two occasions and both boxes were excellent. A nice mix of sweet and salty treats (and tea). I wouldn’t do a subscription but a one time box would be fun.
@taverngirl I echo your recommendation of the Universal Yum box subscriptions. Our daughter has loved receiving them!
