Snail mail vs online app

I know that Yale says it prefers the online common app, but is anyone else applying snail mail? I heard that the common app locks ur application once you apply early and I don’t want my app to be locked for RD. Can anyone offer any insight into this please???

I’m going for snail mail for the reason you mentioned… I want to further edit my essay…

Perhaps I’m not understanding the original question correctly, but you’re stuck with the essay you submit EA. If you submit an improved or revised essay if you are deferred, it’s going to look sketchy. You can update your EA application by advising Yale of any new awards or activities, but you shouldn’t send you app snail mail with the idea of revising your essays. Do it right the first time.

Yale strongly prefers online apps.

We could send in revised essays for the other unis we apply regular… For yale definitely we have to stick with the same essay…

yes, you are correct the common app locks once you do the first submit, and you cant change any part of it. (I saw rumblings elsewhere on this forum that the commonapp people were thinking of changing this, perhaps, but as of now that’s the way it is, and you are best off assuming it stays that way - it’s generally unwise to change a software program during its peak usage time, so I personally doubt it will change this year, but that’s just my opinion.)

When you print after filling it in online, they put an annoying ‘Applicant Copy’ splattered across the page in the background, but it is still pretty legible, so one could send it in after filling it online. You should see how it looks and decide if you are comfortable with it, or want to fill in a downloaded form.

if you email the commonapp people, they’ll let you make adjustments for your rd school

twiggerific, are you sure?.. Is that allowed? Thanks

I heard the same thing as Twiggerific from my college counselor…if you are rejected or deferred from your EA/ED school, you can e-mail the commonapp people and ask to adjust your application.
