Snow....again....in the northeast

@bjkmom

At this point, I pray for either nothing or a full fledged blizzard on LI. I hate this in between because I will probably still have to go into the city. I can’t use any more vacation days on snow. I HATE snow!

There are lots of people in my area who have not had power since Friday - and still don’t. We only lost power for 8 hours, so I consider ourselves lucky. Now we are facing anywhere from 10-24 inches of heavy wet snow (the forecast amounts are all over the place).

I’m guessing NYC will roll forward with everything as planned in the morning. The worst is expected for the afternoon . . .

My neighbors have been without power since the last storm. Mine was cut off for 6 hours this afternoon, I think so their circuit could be worked on. Mine came back, but theirs didn’t. I’m recovering from a total knee replacement with pulmonary embolism and heart arrhythmia complications, and found it miserable to be without power even for just part of a day. My head is too foggy to read much. Can’t drive. It’s ridiculous how dependent I am on tv and internet.

We live in the band that’s expecting to get the heaviest snowfall from this storm. The thing that might make it tricky isn’t the accumulation as much as the fact it is predicted to be a heavy, wet snowstorm. I spent the day down in MA and on our way back home this evening we passed a convoy of lineman trucks and Aslpundh tree trucks heading up to our area to be there for the storm to support the local crews. I wanted to blow them all kisses for traveling up from their home bases to be at the ready.

Oh, and if you live in New England, it’s only early March. Of course the snow’s not over yet. Comes with the territory.

The forecasts are all over the place…and all have the disclaimer that amounts might be less because there could be wintry mix, and freezing rain. Still they are saying 8-14 inches. We will see. The night before the last storm…we were in the 6-12 inch band…and by the time I woke up…we were getting less than 2 inches.

My husband is planning to go to work in the morning. I think that’s ridiculous.

Schools around here are already closing for tomorrow.

Early release for Central MA schools! But what about a late start for Thursday??? I agree with @thumper1 - the forecast has gone all over 12 plus to 4-6 so who knows! Our forsythia was blooming a week ago I hope it does not die!

We’re supposed to get a foot or more. I worked until 11 and had to stop at the store on the way home because we really did need toilet paper and milk. No milk to be had and no potatoes. I’d planned to make a pot roast because I’m actually going to be home to cook and eat for a change. Guess I’ll have to have gravy bread instead of potatoes which is actually a good thing.

As of right now, my husband and daughters are off. The “moms” group chat at work is starting to wake up… though I’m already out of the shower and in grown up clothes, just in case.

Fingers, toes and kidneys crossed. If I’m off today I’ll cook the turkey that has been defrosting for a few days, and I’ll do my kids’ taxes.

My son who works in a supermarket WILL be going to work, and he has no classes on Wednesdays.

eta…YAY…just got the call/text/email. We’re closed!

There’s a little coastal swatch of New England, parts of RI, the Cape, up just north of Boston, that may get away with less actual snow. But they just don’t know. A little shift and it all changes. Last windstorm, our street was the only one on our block that didn’t lose power (underground cables.) Best wishes to all.

Downgraded to 6-10”. Schools here are just closing early.

Funny, it’s all about the timing on this one.

There’s a teeny little bit of snow on some of the grass, that’s it.

But most local schools are closed-- they don’t want to run the risk of school letting out at 3 in the middle of a bad snowstorm, with kids trapped on buses for hours.

And it’s been an easy winter in terms of snow days-- just two the week after Christmas break.

So I took advantage of the non-stormy morning and ran to the supermarket. (Nope, not for bread and milk lol) I’m making a turkey for dinner and wanted celery for the stuffing. And I stocked up on fixings for Irish Soda bread; I can make that when I get to it in the next week or so. And my daughter needed magazine ads for a project due this week, so I picked up some of them for her as long as she’s off today;)

Today is the 8th snowday where I live! Yikes!

I have stopped reading the forecasts. This is one…where I will look out my window and see how much snow we actually get. It keeps going up…and down. Right now…it’s not doing anything…but we did get an inch of snow on the grassy surfaces earlier this morning.

DH went to work.

The forecast is still holding at 12-18" here.

^^^ same here. I was at Hannaford early this morning and it was pretty quiet, but they said they expect it to pick up. Snow starting around 1 PM. We seem to be in the regular snow area. Safe wishes to everyone, especially those of you still trying to climb out of the last event.

Hmmmmmm… Now we’re back into the 6-9 range, changing over to snow mid afternoon.

I might be very glad that I told my seniors that, in the unlikely event that school is cancelled Thursday, their math test will be Friday.

If that happens, they’ll hear from me via email in the morning.

I love my job

We are now down to 4-6” range.
I think the storm is moving just a tad more to the east, lowering my totals in east central NY and upping them further east of me (Ct, Ma.)

Our snow totals have been lowered as well. And the “heavy snow” time is now about an hour instead of three hours.

Roads are still fine here…wet but no snow on them at this point.

I will say…it’s snowing a little more steadily now.

75 and sunny. Heading to the beach.

^Oh, I’m sorry!
