Snow....again....in the northeast

I feel awful for you @twoinanddone

I broke my leg slipping on wet snow in Pittsburgh 2 1/2 weeks ago. I am now in CT where they are predicting 8 to 12 inches. Just hope with my air cast and crutches I don’t fall and break the other one. [-O<

I LOVE having different seasons!

But three would be plenty, Dos, x out harsh winters.

Winter is probably my favorite season. If not its fall. If we are eliminating a season, I vote for spring. Cold rain is no fun.

Well, I do have to laugh when people up here say they enjoy the four seasons. After growing up in Texas, I tell them they really don’t have much of a spring up here. It seems to go from winter to summer pretty directly.

In places I have lived with real winters and a lot of snow, springs have varied by year. Sometimes you essentially go from winter to spring. Other years, you have an actual spring (which can be successive periods of winter followed by summer followed by winter).

Spring lasts about a month or so up here unless you get one of those cold, rainy summers.

I do like winter. When it gets to April/May and we are having snowstorms, you might hear me grumble but March is too early to expect spring IMO.

Here in the northern philly suburbs, it looks like a whiteout.

@MaineLonghorn

But you forgot to count mud season? That makes it…four!

I know a lot of people who totally hate winter and who live in areas that routinely get 3-4 months of winter each year. They essentially hibernate for several months every year. To me that is not the way to live. If I felt that way, I would move. And sometimes I know there are circumstances that tie you to a given area (such as a job or family). But some of the people I know who fit in this category could easily move.

Pretty Winter Wonderland here in CT. Just got the mail, popped the mailbox off its post, and brought the box into the garage (ritual here as our plows have a nearly 100% box kill rate). As long as we don’t lose power, which is by no means a given, I’ll happily nest inside with good food and electronics.

We finally have flakes in NH :snowflake:

P.S. I do love having 4 seasons, with Summer being my least favorite; March isn’t Spring here, despite the first signs of buds on our trees, and we could certainly get another snowfall this month.

Portland averages more snow in March than in February.

Even after living here 32 years, I can’t believe how long it takes the trees to come out fully. June 1 is typical!

Working from home on the South Shore of Long Island… the rain has changed over to snow, lots of big flakes and windy but just sticking on the grass and now on my deck, not really on the street as too rainy from the morning

Yes, “Spring” here in Maine can often be two weeks long: one huge glorious burst of flowers in the beginning of June. Some years it actually starts in the first half of May and we are all cursing because in an excess of caution we didn’t plant vegetables and so missed a couple of precious weeks of growing season. (Especially tomatoes!!) Other times it fakes us out, we plant the garden near the beginning of May, and everything rots in the ground during weeks of cold rain. I don’t count mud season as spring. Mud season is in fact the only season I don’t have patience for. It is a purgatory between winter and real spring.

The first flakes are falling. I’m trying to decide whether I need to go out and get anything…

Two weeks ago we had a forecast for Saturday night snow of 2 inches: a mere dusting. Woke up Sunday morning with 9 inches. More recently, we were supposed to get the big nor’easter, the power company even texted warnings. We got almost nothing.

I love New England.

D was able to get into her office for 1/2 day. She thought she maybe could have lasted another hour but her bf told her it was getting worse and she should go home. I’m glad she didn’t have to take a whole day of PTO, those days are important and she doesn’t have that many.

I’m in Michigan where we get snow and they are good at clearing the roads. Lots of winter sports and getting out and doing stuff makes a world of difference. We are getting snow this week and the only problem is that all of our base melted.

DH went to work, and claimed he was leaving at 1. He’s not home yet! Roads are lousy now.

A few flakes earlier, but nothing now. DH is in the town south of us and said it’s coming down pretty hard. The suspense is killing me!
