I’m not blindsided by snow so much as by the crowded supermarkets on my regular shopping days because a storm is coming. Somehow it always startles me. My grocery trips are planned not around the weather but around my chocolate supply.
We got 14" the last time, and I am not looking forward to the next one.
I love summer-- I’m looking forward to returning to Disney World mid July.
But I also LOVE any sort of storm, including snow storms.
And the fact that 12" of snow would mean a snow day wouldn’t hurt. I love snow days-- the whole unexpectedness of it all. You can be as busy or as lazy as you choose; there’s no preset agenda the way there is over a weekend.
As to shopping-- I will (as always) call mom today before the storm. She’s 87 and lives alone (though 1/2 a mile from one of my sisters). I’ll remind her to make sure she has milk and a bit of cake or something for her tea; like the rest of us, she could live off what’s in her pantry for a good month, but I always want to make sure she’ll have those extras.
Then, hopefully this time tomorrow, I’ll be posting that we’re off. If so, tomorrow is the day I’ll bake all my loaves of Irish Soda bread
Sigh. They keep increasing the snow amounts. A little worried that S18s AP classes will not get through the material in time for tests.
We have been downgraded…2-6. If the storm moves west, we will get more. But apparently it had moved east.
TBH…I’m done with snow for this year.
Sending my sympathies for those in the storms past - except for those of you who apparently love it! You must have good snow removal in your city - because here (Ohio) ours is TERRIBLE - and lot of snow means awful covered, snowy/ice roads for sometimes weeks depending on the temperature and sidewalks that are not cleared for those of us who get out to walk/run frequently - because people don’t bother to clean their snow!
A day off or the one day of looking out the window that it’s “pretty” (because after a day or so the mess just turns into muddy/yucky grey slush/snow in the roads, snowbanks etc. is not worth a storm - but of course, we don’t get a choice!!!
What is worse are the pot holes on the road after winter storms. After one tire got flat because of that when it was still breaking in, now I got road hazard insurance on each site of tires.
@abasket, we live outside of Portland, so we don’t have to deal with the mess very often.
Cyberhugs to all affected by this triple whammy!
Yup, it’s still white and pretty here from whenever the last one was…I’ve lost track, LOL.
They’ve upped the forecast to 12-18 inches of snow. Winter storm warning is in effect from 4 am Tuesday until 2 pm Wednesday.
Not living in the city means our snow stays cleaner, ha.
@MaineLonghorn , I no longer bother to check online: I depend on you for my weather forecast, LOL.
Sounds as if I had better go to the store today. I was incredibly busy all the latter part of last week with the memorial service on Saturday, and still taking platters and tablecloths home as of yesterday afternoon, when I wnet into full collapse mode. Now that all the party food is gone there isn’t much left in my fridge!
Our totals have gone…down. Unless the storm shifts west…which could happen.
I doubt there will be school around here tomorrow unless the storm goes out to sea!
Lots of MA, RI, CT schools already closed for tmrw. Tell you what, I’m parking at the end of the driveway, so there’s only a few feet to blow. Still leaves the walkways
I’m parking IN the garage!
We’re now in 6-12", but there’s likely to be a narrow band that gets over a foot & they can’t accurately forecast where that band might be.
And another one…
My spring break gets shorter and shorter…
I think we are in the 3-6 inch area…but we are on the far western edge of this…so we shall see!
We’re in the 15-20 inch area. The grocery stores were packed!
Yikes, I just checked the estimated snowfall where I am, 12-16", with 19" in some areas. Just great.
