In PA I-83, I-81 and I-78 are all closed per the Governor.

Wow, that’s interesting. I’m watching The Weather Channel and they had a reporter standing in Central Park and it looked like Winter Wonderland!

Why is that Weather Channel reporter posted in NYC (and DC) when the Philly area is the one getting hammered the most? We had over 20 last storm and are expecting another 20 again. I have friends who think this is great. I don’t understand.

I just heard on NPR news that Baltimore has closed all roads in the city except for police and emergency vehicles, and there will be penalities for those others who attempt to drive. Wow.

We (way out on Eastern LI) have at least 6 inches on the ground and we’re expecting the worst part of the storm to hit a little later this afternoon into tonight. Strong winds plus more snow is on its way.

Yes, I’m in Baltimore County and Baltimore City has declared a stage 3 snow emergency, meaning no one should be on the roads unless you are in a city owned vehicle. No one can remember that ever happening before. The majority of the secondary roads were not plowed after last weekend’s snow and with another foot on the ground, they are paralyzed. They have a plea out for anyone with front end loaders and bobcats to pitch in. The poor mayor has only been on the job for about a week.

LI Railroad stops running if there is more than 10 in snow on the ground, that’s their new rule.

Wow, 50 car pile up on I-80 in PA. I cannot imagine.

NYC has gotten much worse in the last 1-2 hrs; we’re getting about an inch an hr right now. Not sure how long it’ll last but it’s cool to see.

The snow is coming down with a vengeance now, and the wind is blowing.
It looks beautiful outside!

Mother nature can you please let up for an hour, so I can ski to the store, to get a pint of my favorite ice cream?

I’m in NYC too and we have close to a foot here on Staten Island. It started at nine last night, tapered off ffor a while this morning and then went full blast around 10 am. Has gotten progressively worse since then. It’s so dark right now it’s like the middle of the night.

Ice crea? We’ve had a hard time finding plain old milk in the local stores. Keep in mind it has been difficult to get trucks into DC for 5 days.

There is a preliminary forecast for another snowstorm Monday for this area. Wonder if it will be a dusting of less than a foot, or a real storm?

Interesting to explore the NWS site. They forecast 8-12 inches total for NW DC. We’re above that already. But they forecast a wopping 20-30 for just outside Baltimore. Good luck to folks there.

You can make snow cream. We always made it every time it snowed when I was a kid. You need milk, sugar, vanilla extract, eggs and snow.

Is there a good website (either news or weather site) which has relatively accurate snow accumlations/totals? Every website I’ve seen only has forecasts. Seems like there’s a lot of variance in NYC as Manhattan doesn’t have a foot of snow like Staten Island. Also curious about DC/Alexandria Va.

Heather Mizeur of the Maryland House of Delegates has named the snow

Snowverachiever

off of the regional NWS websites, they have links to spotter reports. For example, this is the DC/Baltimore home page: [NWS Baltimore/Washington Home page](http://www.erh.noaa.gov/er/lwx/) It has a link at the top to [National Weather Service Text Product Display](<a href=“Text Products for PNS Issued by LWX”>Text Products for PNS Issued by LWX) which tells you DC near American U had 11 inches at 2 PM, and Alexandria at 8.8 at 12:15.

These will be updated, and grow quite a bit for Maryland through the night.

For comparison, here’s an extract from the last storm:

We are getting bands of snow and heavy winds with periods of quiet/flurries. Eleven inches today, lots of wind and heavy drifting. 64" at our house so far this season!

Glad I got to Trader Joe’s on Monday – they had clearly gotten new supplies that day.

Ok, our snow blower died. H said the snow was too heavy. I did tell him to go out earlier. Of course, he didn’t listen to me. This is a H/W moment of “I told you so.” We have close to 18 in now.

not even sure how we are going to measure the snowfall anymore…just so much of it. Out local paper is reporting a roof collapse on a Wawa in the area…hope the roof on our steel warehouse is okay. Husband is worried about the roof on our store because the building is very old.
