Snow Apocalypse? Yeah, Sure.

Our forecast in E PA was for 10-18" and we have 18" and it’s still snowing.

We have a fresh 21" north of Baltimore and it is still snowing. Combined with the weekend storm, I have well over 40" on the ground.

Here are some snow maps

We in Chicagoland were glad to see this one move on. Sorry to you on the East coast.

I still can’t get over the fact that H didn’t go out to plow when we only had 6 inches, and now the snow plower is broken. I think H should listen to W more, or would that be for a different thread.

Oldfort–we are lucky; instead of our own snowblower, we have the 16 year old up the street with the borrowed one. He’ll do it whether we pay him or not. Keeps the whole block running with his industry year-round–that kid’s going places!

lje–what store is yours? I’d be happy to visit when the weather’s a bit better.

The weather men here are now telling us that the storm is going to blow out to sea instead of dropping snow on the northwestern part of CT. We got less than an inch of snow. We were just downgraded from a winter storm warning to a winter weather advisory…but really unless something happens overnight…it’s over.

oldfort, we thought our snow blower was broken because the chopper/grinder/turning blades (whatever they are called) were not turning. All we needed was a 50 cent metal screw that goes throw the blades. It was about 2-3 inches long. (can’t think of the name of this either) The old one got snapped off with a chunk of hard snow from the end of the driveway.

we’ve got about 4 - 5 inches in southwestern ct - a far cry from the 8 - 15 inches expected.

Kajon - I just gave H the information. He said, “I think it’ll probably start tomorrow.” Huh? He thinks it may just be over heated. I am not a believer. If you all see me posting here tomorrow instead of busy at work, it’s not going to be good.

Somebody on our block does everyone’s sidewalks. I’m not sure who it is, but it’s very nice of him! My husband’s theory is to shovel every few hours so it’s not so heavy. He’s out there again for the fourth time. (I only went out with him once.) We got about ten inches and are supposed to get one or two more over night. It was perfect snow for snow balls. S1 went out with a whole bunch of friends to do just that.

oldfort - I heard on the news that lots of snow blowers were konking out in this snow because it is so heavy and wet. In the December snow, a local news crew was interviewing a guy whose snow blower was clogged an he tried to clear it without turning it off. For the world to see, he managed to get his fingers chopped off. You can hear him saying as he holds one hand in the other - “my fingers got chopped off.”

Well, I officially no longer have snow envy. Outside of Chicago we got a reasonable amount, enough for me. Good luck to all of you on the east coast! Be careful with those snow shovels and remember to pace yourselves.

It called a shear bolt

poetgrl, you are a cheap snow date.

I let my dog out in the courtyard and a big Lab went running by outside the gate, romping in the snow. My Boston Terrier thought he could romp too so he ran through the snow and completely disappeared. All I could see was the ripple on top of the snow as he tried to find his way out. He emerged, covered in snow, with a look of sheer terror on his face, tucked his tail-stump and returned to the sofa.

From the NWS website:

What makes the DC record doubly interesting is that the old record was set at M street in downtown DC, which gets a lot more snow than National Airport, which sits in the Potomac River.

My biggest problem is that I have had no mail delivery since last Friday, and probably won’t until next Tuesday. This even though all the streets, sidewalks and front porches in our neighborhood were clear Monday and Tuesday.

The Postal Service in the DC area claims they delivered to 80% of customers Monday and Tuesday. I wonder what 80% that was?

Friends, let’s please recommend the name of a good counselor to save oldfort’s marriage. Also, someone give oldfort’s husband the name of a mail-order fine chocolate shop for Valentine’s Day.

We didn’t get mail on Mon. or yesterday, but we did get delivery on Tuesday. Will be interesting to see if we get it today.

We rarely get more than 1-2 inches of snow in DFW area, but it’s snowing today and we expect anywhere from 5-8 inches in North Texas. I’m stunned they didn’t close our school. DD is ****ed.

It’s so beautiful, but I can understand how too much of a good thing could be really bad for you guys in the NE. As for us, it’ll be gone by tomorrow afternoon, so we’re loving it.

D’s college in Allentown is closed today. She doesn’t have classes on Fridays, so she has a long weekend, which could be trouble since she turns 21 this weekend!

For us Chicagoans, well, it’s not quite California, but on top of our foot of snow, we had an earthquake early yesterday morning. Yea, no big deal if you’re used to them, but due to all the snow, the report I’m hearing from everyone was that they thought a snow plow had run into the side of their house since the plows were out all night.

40 inches total here over the two storms. No paper this morning. Ddog is taking it worse than us. It’s part of his job to get that thing off the driveway every morning and he’s worried that he’s been laid off or something. Kept coming by and sitting by my leg with a confused look on his face. Poor thing. I tried to watch the local news as a substitute. Awful stuff. Some lady standing in the snow and rambling on about how you shouldn’t wear heels out there today. Or shorts.

Well, I have to admit, it IS pretty. The sun is shining. But it could be pretty with 3 inches, we don’t need 40!
