Snow Apocalypse? Yeah, Sure.

Yay it stopped here…so I’m guessing we got 28-30 inches. It’s pleasant out now, but was a lot of work to clean up. No plows in sight.

It stopped here in NJ for awhile , but it started up again with a vengeance…husband is out with his little plow again to get rid of some more before it gets to be too much and too heavy…I think he is secretly loving this day

Stopped here, too, by about 3:30 PM. Looks like we averaged nearly an inch per hour for about 28 hours. The road has been plowed. Now all I have to do is move about 10,000 cubic feet of snow standing between me and that road.

lje how much snow in Upper Township? My guess is about 15-20 inches here, (it’s not over yet) but pales in comparison to 28 inches our southern neighbors report !

My dogs don’t like to “do their business” if the grass is wet or really cold. God forbid it snows, it takes some major cajoling to get them to get with it. It’s a major pain. Any of your doggies making your life difficult because of all this snow?

Yes, the dog hates going to the bathroom in the snow. However, this winter he has just had to adjust and he is much better about it this time around. I just dug out and took him for a long walk. He was quite cooperative.

My cocker thinks snow is grass. this morning she went out the front door and peed right on my front porch.
I have my daughter back her car on the lawn since my driveway only holds one car. When we move it off there is a nice patch of grass for the dog. She is appreciative!

My youngest is right outside Baltimore. She got 30". Her car is buried. She has tiny little snow scraper. No shovel. Should be interesting…

SJCM , a little hard to tell with the drifts , but guess about 24"…just happy to still have power !! I think the winds have died down considerably , though our store in Sea Isle City’s cameras show a lot of wind , and friends in Ocean City are feeling it too…let’s hope this is the last of the snow this winter, though I don’t think we will be that lucky :)

Watching the weather channel. They say the storm in California may make its way right back to you guys in the form of heavy snow. Hope they’re wrong!

S in Baltimore cleared his steps, walk and car periodically all day so that he wouldn’t have to cope with a hardened underlayer of snow. An experienced New Englander! Now he’s gulping Advil for sore muscles and worrying that his side street won’t be plowed in time to get to his Superbowl party tomorrow. He’s thinking of hiking the quarter mile to a main drag and hailing a cab, but I wonder if they’ll be out in force. Meanwhile D’s campus in DC is officially “closed”, but at least they’re still feeding 'em. She was about to go to the giant snowball fight in Dupont Circle till I reminded her she didn’t have waterproof gear. Looks like Sunday will be a grand day for building snow forts and sledding in the Mid-Atlantic!

" Watching the weather channel. They say the storm in California may make its way right back to you guys in the form of heavy snow. Hope they’re wrong! "

I hope that they are wrong too…still need to eat and pay the basic bills…we have earned nothing in the last week, thanks to the weather…had enough of it to last a looonnggg time

We in E PA are scheduled to get “Snow” on Wednesday. They are not saying how much.

pumpkin - Thundersnow! Isn’t that one of the most amazing weather phenomena?
First time I saw/heard it was the blizzard of '78 and I had no idea what it was until my brother told me. We had it during the height of the blizzard of 1996 as well.

My dog got to the point where he would not tell us he had to go out to avoid having to go out in the snow. If we caught him, he would just stand out in the snow and shiver and refuse to go until he was brought inside, where he would promptly pee on the carpet. A doggie sweater cured that. He hated the stupid thing and fought us putting it on, so we only used it to go out and took it right off, but it got him to stop peeing on the floor. Shoveling a spot for them to go and/or getting them moving so they can’t just sit and shiver and get colder should help, too.

No more snow, please!!!

Philadelphia’s official tally from the latest storm: 28.5"

[Action News AccuWeather Update - 2/06/10 - Philadelphia News - 6abc.com](http://abclocal.go.com/wpvi/story?section=weather/forecast&id=5802778)

Before I started shoveling my sidewalk today, I stuck a yardstick in the snow to see how deep it was. The yardstick totally disappeared! I think the drifts on the sidewalk were about 4 feet deep. My poor aching shoulders. I don’t think they can handle another snowstorm right away.

We have a snow thrower, but the snow was too deep in many places to use it.

Yep, MommaJ, thundersnow, lightning…I have seen/heard it before, it is amazing. I think it was either '78 or '83.

Someone mentioned their dog ‘going’ on the porch…that’s what our Corgi did first thing this morning. She was so confused, then she dropped off into a drift. We’ve dug paths and open spaces so she is doing better now.

No plow on our street yet. Thankful for incredible snow thrower, but still popping ibuprofen because we still had shovel a bit.

i’m in northern va like some other posters… 12+ plows have gone down the street (half of them yesterday before the snow started). VDOT must’ve hired every single large vehicle in the area to plow. In the December storm, we didn’t get a plow until 2-3 days after it finished snowing. Guy across the street hailed down a snowplow to plow out his pipestem.

stimulus dollars at work

who said that government stimulus doesn’t work? Certainly shovel ready, eh?

I have snow envy. I’m not too proud to admit it. I’m just flat out jealous. :(

I love snow but this much is just too much - at least snow that is this heavy. There are thousands without power, roofs are collapsing and my dwarf magnolia is shattered. I know those things are not equal but still.

LongPrime - not so much stimulus but it is political. (keep gloating though - you in lovely spring weather!)

The Dec storm is fresh in everyone’s mind and another poor response doesn’t bode well for local elected officials. Since everyone knew this was coming they were much more prepared. Back East all snow removal budgets are overdrawn but they can’t stop plowing.

Over the years, I have found the first big storm of the season to be somewhat screwed up when it comes to plowing - after that it becomes more efficient. Snow removal success is highly dependent on experience.

My oldest was 13 during the blizzard of 1996 - we talked about this while shoveling. She remembers the mounds of snow - we got well over 40". She doesn’t remember that the town plow was too small to handle the snow and we had to wait 3 days for a front end loader to show up and make a pass down the street so we could get out. Our street was one way for weeks.
The other vivid memory from that was neighbor helping neighbor. It seemed like we all congregated at one driveway, shoveled that and moved on - many hands make light work. In my neighborhood we also take care of our senior citizens and make sure they get safely shoveled out.
BTW - don’t forget to find and shovel out your fire hydrants!
