I’m just amazed that our country road is plowed already. This is at least as much snow as we had back in the mid-90s, when as I recall it took days before we saw blacktop.

Stimulus? Maybe. A few months back the roads out here were re-surfaced when I did not think they even needed it.

It is beautiful today, lots of sunshine.
But…I don’t anticipate seeing a plow until at least Tuesday if we are lucky. And my SUV cannot make it out in 30+ inches of snow.
We lost power for about 4 hours last evening, it was back on by bedtime so I consider us very lucky. Some people have it much worse.

We got 19 inches, and the guy the HOA had a contract with to plow the cul de sac called and said his plow broke. My guess is he found more lucrative places to plow.

I’ve already broken two shovels, and I’m not even half finished. H has had two heart attacks, so I’m the only shoveler. I was going to go back out later today, but to hell with it. Unless we get plowed, there’s no way I can get out tomorrow anyway…

Our HOA contractor did a great job in the neighborhood - streets were clear yesterday. They are working on clearing in front of garages and parking areas now, but they started in the court where the president of the HOA lives and won’t get to my court until tomorrow - a perk of being the president no doubt.

Also here in NOVA…lost power the first night of the storm and it was just restored (in time for the Super Bowl…) Have alternated between shoveling, snacking to clean out the fridge, and snuggling in bed for the last 40 hours or so.

Power popped off as I was responding to the Newsweek thread, so I think I’ll go back there and try again!

Wonder of wonders, our cul de sac was plowed overnight! There is a 3 feet high wall of snow at the bottom of the driveway, but once we shovel that out, I can go to work.

Indeed, round 2 is scheduled for Tues/Wed. Expect the Jersey shore to get hammered again. Winter Storm Watch is up for DC, Baltimore and Philly. Most of those kids probably won’t be in school all week.
Snow begets snow.

Are you confused? This isn’t Buffalo! We already have ~55 inches of snow this season (when our average is ~20 inches) and we’re still recovering from the latest pounding. So why do I read things like this today???

*Winter’s about to deliver another major wallop. A storm from the Midwest is expected to merge with another nor’easter tomorrow - and then converge on Eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Northern Delaware. “Numbers up to 2 feet are not out of the realm of possibility,” reads a morning discussion out of the NWS’s Mount Holly office."

Please take a look at the normal annual snowfall map for the US and you’ll see you’ve made a BIG mistake somewhere!!!

I glad someone mentioned the snow of 1996. We lived in Fairfax County then. If any of you recall it came at the tail end of the standoff between Clinton and Congress over the budget. We Feds had been furloughed for weeks. I had waxed the floors, washed the windows, and was generally going crazy. My wife was ok, she can putter. I can’t.

The Department of Education was among the last to get their budget (surprise) and we were set to go back, and then the snow came and came and came. Still couldn’t get in. I really wanted to get back top work. The men on my block were so bored we went out and shoveled the street just to have something to do.

tsdad, I remember the 1996 snow. We had one of those big plows stuck at the bottom of our driveway. All the snow melted in 24 hours, then a 100-foot oak tree across the street uprooted and fell on our house & cars. Good times!

Yup, 1996 was lots of fun. Have many pics of the kids next to the snow drifts.
Another 5-10" tomorrow?!? I love snow, but even I am getting tired of this. Good thing we have lots of food in the house, still have electricity, and a propane camping stove and BBQ grill just in case…

Here in the Chicago area our Warning begins tonight at 9pm and goes until Wednesday until noon. 9-12 in., but more if you get any lake effect. At my house there is only about 3in. already (old) on the ground. I’m hoping for a snowday or 2, but my district rarely closes.
