Snow Days?

Does BC ever have snows? How much snow does it take and what else goes on?

they said never. and they have a quick cleanup crew apparantly

Dear bceaglefan : Over the last two years, I can remember one delayed opening (12 noon or so) following an overnight 14" - 16" snowfall in the Chestnut Hill/Newton area. Since you are now directly paying for your education, the idea of “snow days” represent a loss of value for you!

There will never be a snow day at BC.

“Snow Days” do indeed occur at BC, although they are certainly rare. The most recent one (which was the “half snow day” mentioned by scottj) occurred in January 2008 when 8 inches of snow fell on the campus as students were returning from the Christmas break. Apparently there was a lot of confusion as to whether or not classes were actually cancelled the following morning, which was the start of the spring semester. Many students and professors (who were equally in the dark) trudged through the snow only to find buildings locked and classes cancelled. A small notice on BCinfo (where no student ever looks) stating that the University would open at noon was the only “official” notice of the half-day closing, which prompted a rather spirited editorial in the 1/17/08 edition of “The Heights” that the school should have sent out an email directly to students and/or posted the notice on the BC home page or on Agora where it would have been seen by more people. BC allegedly learned its lesson and now has a better communication plan in place.

The following is an excerpt from an article in the 2/25/03 edition of “The Heights:”

^ What’s wrong about the professors?

By and large, the profs have to drive to campus meaning that if roads aren’t plowed they can’t make it. Still, snow days at BC pretty much don’t happen unless there is a crazy blizzard. I would guess that the average student experiences one snow day over their four years at BC.
