Snowmageddon PNW Edition - Part 2

@Nrdsb4 - this is not typical, just like the polar vortex that hit Midwest. Daffodils were already out on our street… typically, we would get a couple of snowflakes in February, and that’s it.

DS is confident that he can walk 15 minutes home from work mostly along Denny in his Chicago winter gear.

Sometimes something being coveted by others at the same time it’s in short supply makes it seem more desirable.

Unless I had small children, the milk and bread would be safe from me. But don’t you dare tell me that there has been a run on wine! :open_mouth:

LOL just turned on The Weather Channel and they’re in Seattle reporting on Winter Storm Maya.

We were downtown late morning. Left Before 2 for home and most of the street traffic was a nightmare. We took the express lanes home and there were no backups. The main line was something else again. We know all the ways to get around, but those relying on Waze were being sent in some odd directions.

Home from Bellevue to Green Lake now. I need half & half and salad dressing. I kind of want to walk to Whole Foods, but not sure if they will be out. :-?

You can always call and ask the store. Or order online for curbside pick up - let the employees fight in the aisles!

Mr. went to flagship Costco around 3 pm, and it was deserted. Milk, bread, bareroot trees, tires, cough syrup… anything you want. He got out with a bucket of bird seed. Gotta give the chickadees some love because they drool at our hummers feasting on their heated syrup.

Good luck to all. Someone else already mentioned that, yes the Midwest does have hills (and ice). When I was a kid we watched cars trying to get up our hill- they often slid when they got as far as our third house up before the plows came through. And our side of the hill was less steep and a lot longer than once you got up that hill. The UW(Madison) campus is many hills (great food tray sledding). Ice forms with freeze/thaw cycles as well as freezing rain.

Nephew’s family leaves for Hawaii mid week- hope round three is cleared by then. Son still has his Wisconsin skills (as does nephew- his wife is a Seattle area native). He can work from home some days. Thankfully they had the 8K race the weekend before winter set in with a vengeance.

We retired to Tampa. Normal high 71- being around 80 for another week after some 60’s for highs. I do not miss the winter weather- severe cold/snow/ice. Do miss hills and seasons.

I walked to Whole Foods. It is barely snowing (my car parked outside when I got home over 3 hours ago has no accumulated snow on it). But sure enough… all the salad dressing I wanted was gone. Got the half & half, though. I made a salad at their salad bar, and they were out of chicken & garbanzo beans. They had plenty of milk, and there was bread on the shelves. My movie night with friends in Kirkland was cancelled. Netflix & salad bar for me tonight!

North toward the Canadian border we had snow at 6AM, it was lovely and fluffy, our road was white and unused still at 10AM, but by noon it was over, bits of snow and ice around the fringes, but no problems.

Well, I have to admit to some disappointment. Here in Bothell we have gotten a whopping inch or so of new snow. What shall I do with my pantry full of groceries?

Hang on to your supplies! Just wait until Bot Hell freezes…

It is snowing quite hard here in Costco land… Chickadee feeders are loaded… Hunmer feeder lights are on. Cats can’t even imagine how lucky they are!

We are hunkered down with enough food for 20 for a week. That is just my style. Hope to have neighbors in for a happy hour. Cancelled babysitting the G’Son tonight. :frowning: Our neighborhood does not usually hire snow plows. We parked our car 5 blocks away straight down a hill. I have plans: taxes, long term budget, pantry cleaned, learn to play cribbage. We do have one worry and that even a firetruck with chain would not be able to make it to our house with black ice. That said, I know they would walk and save us and take comfort in that. I grew up in Indiana and lived in PA. I still wore my summer canvas shoes today but did finally wear a coat.

BB, folks were still behaving well in Costco and the local grocery. The parking was the issue. The checkout lines when H stopped in for a few items were long. Clerks all upbeat. BUT!!! I have only 6 cloves of garlic :((>
Now just how am suppose to cook with that?

I’m thinking of going to Fred Meyer tomorrow afternoon. I figure everyone else has already shopped for the week. I suppose they might be out of some things, but I’m not really looking for staples. Also working tomorrow on final planning for our spring break Paris trip.

I got an email at 7:00 pm last night saying my Amazon order was delivered to my Amazon locker. Very surprised they made the delivery in the snow.

Seemed like a bust when I went to bed last night but we picked up a ton of snow overnight on Queen Anne. Its still snowing at 8:30 this morning. Really stunning. Husband has been up since 6 so driveway and walks are shoveled! Hunkering down for the long haul…bread rising, making bagels!

Fresh bagels?? I’ll be over in a few minutes!

We got around 6 inches on top of the snow from last weekend.

1D said they forgot to buy coffee yesterday & were all out this morning. Crisis! Fortunately, the Starbucks near them was open.

Somehow the newspaper was delivered so I can work on the Saturday sudoku and NYT crossword. Happiness!
