Snowmageddon PNW Edition - Part 2

We got around six inches after I went to bed. The hyper pup is loving her snow soccer! No one has driven down the hill of our cul-de-sac yet. I think we’re home for a few days.

When asked how much snow he got in lower QA, DS replied “Not a ton that I can see out my window, at least.” No idea what that means, but he is using Chicago standards.

Edit: he sent a picture from his little balcony and looks like only 2 or 3 inches of wet snow.

Got about 6-7 inches overnight to add to the 2 inches we already had (plus the leftover Monday stuff). Mister wants to cross country ski. Ha!

Tossed the cats into snow to let them satisfy their curiosity… to our surprise, the cats did not mind being in the snow. So shooed them back in. The chickadees already discovered their feeder, and the hummers are fighting over theirs, which means they are doing OK (they stopped their fight when it was survival or bust).

D1 said she went to the store to stock up after work on Thursday, and the shelves at her grocery store were already picked clean of anything you’d be craving on a snow day. :frowning: She said “oh well, I got a lot of veggies.”

Good for her! Healthy eating.

I saw a picture of a grocery store in Portland from which the kale had disappeared. Ah, Portland…

About 5” here on top of what was leftover. No one has ventured down the hill car-wise yet and we don’t plan to anytime soon.

S19 did go feed the neighbors fish and wore flats.

Came back with some very soggy socks!

I just texted my landlord’s guy to ask if he is coming to shovel. He didn’t show up last week. It mostly melted after a few days, but the porch steps weren’t in great shape all week. They come if I bug them about things, but rarely without a request…

Talked to my 2 DDs in Seattle. One is visiting the other. They ventured to walk to Starbucks to get their birthday drinks. Apparently the sidewalks are clear only on 1 side of the street. Streets are mushy and they’re worried the snow mush will freeze overnight. Not venturing out too much since going up and down the hills could be too slippery especially over the overpass (I-5). The DD1 visiting is worried flight out on Monday afternoon will be cancelled or delayed. Stores are replenished in their area (Capital Hill)

@BunsenBurner I took that storm is heading to Utah, which just had its worst blizzard ever this past week. Its sowing now here and we may be getting your blizzard. Younger s/wife are supposed to fly out Tomorrow night and the rest of us Mon night (assuming we can get there)… The ski conditions are great, but…

If you really want to be freaked out check cliff mass weather blog…seems like we are likely getting a foot of snow on Tuesday!!! Almost every weather model is saying the same thing.

The good news…Whole Foods was open and well stocked apparently too expensive for even the looters.

Well.,. We did get our skis out and went on the trail! We were not the only ones skiing.

Came back, got our shovels out and shoveled the driveway. Gorgeous day! Sun and about 32 degrees. Shoveling snow once a year is fun!! The neighborhood kids are polishing the hill with their sleds. Then their parents will be “sledding” on it in their cars.

@BunsenBurner which trail? XC skiing or ???

Our street (cul de sac) was plowed today which surprised the heck out of us! Not that we’ve left the house mind you.

H went to grocery and the produce and bread was nonexistent.
Friends who live at a much lower elevations are snowless.
Not us. That said so far this is just fine .

@eandesmom - we skied on the Cross Kirkland trail. plenty of snow to keep skiers and snowshoes happy!

Saw a few folks with grocery bags. They went for a walk and ended up shopping at PCC. The store was well stocked apparently.

I’m seriously wondering if anyone will leave their houses to go to work for the next week, given the forecast. I’m not even sure I will (and I went in every day last week). Forecast is for a few new inches Sunday night, then 5-8 inches Mon through Tuesday. Break on Wednesday, then 5 straight days with snow forecast per weather underground. Although highs during the day around 40 for Thurs & Fri, so maybe that will melt some of it. (Still no sign of the landlord’s guy to clear our steps, sidewalk, or driveway).

Hell or high water (snow?) - I am walking to my office if the VPN bugs out. ? Thank goodness there is a walkway on the stupid bridge now!

There were a lot of people out today on foot, enjoying the snow or doing errands without cars. I awoke to about 6 inches of snow this morning, and we had another inch or so during the day.

I walked to and from work, 1.7 miles each way. Early this morning I could walk in tire tracks when there were no cars on the neighborhood roads, and only worried about losing my footing when going down one significant hill. The sidewalks along the one busy street had had little foot traffic and were pretty easy to navigate. All in all, it was a pleasant trek.

Returning home this evening, snow on sidewalks was packed down in well-trodden areas, a smooth but undulating icepack, and it was very slippery despite the fact that it was just under freezing at that point.

It should be 17 degrees by 7 a.m.when I head out tomorrow morning. I think roads and sidewalks, whether shoveled or not, are going to treacherous ice slicks.

Cliff Mass is almost always right. The 8-12 inches of snow he forecasts for the 24-hour period ending 4 p.m. Tuesday could bring this very-hilly-without-infrastructure-to-deal-with-snow-city to a halt. I really admire Cliff Mass, but I hope he’s wrong this time.

Is this something that’s in your contract that your landlord said he would do? Cuz…we’ve been tenants, and I would have passed out from shock if my landlord sent someone to shovel my snow. And as landlords, we would tell our tenants to do it themselves, if they asked. Along with plunging their own toilets and changing light bulbs. I’m not vacuuming their carpets either.

So if it’s not directly addressed in the contract, you might be waiting a long time for that guy to come over.

On another note, my husband spent almost 8 hours today shoveling snow, clearing our roof and the driveway. Glad I’m not home to help!

Ice ain’t nice. My driveway is covered in it and I’m struggling to hack through it. More snow is forecast here in southcentral Wisconsin today, Tuesday, and Thursday.
