Snowmageddon PNW Edition - Part 2

Yeah, I have a feeling it is going to be bad. But I missed getting the trip I wanted by about two minutes…so I’m going to have to keep trying. I would hate to stay away and not get paid. But it’s looking pretty bad tomorrow.

@busdriver - you can probably take the train to downtown, get off in the tunnel, and get on ST bus 550 and get to Bellevue transit center. Or on Metro bus 255 and get to Kirkland. Both buses still depart from the tunnels. For 550, get at Westlalke. For 255, get at University or International.

I spoke too soon, at the northern border we’ve been pummeled with gorgeous huge whirling flakes since 2ish and it’s piling up. It is gorgeous & we are not going anywhere and that’s fine.

@busdriver11 , wouldn’t you get better trips if you avoid SEA ? I understand your desire to sleep in your own bed, but if you can get your uniform cleaned and avoid the mess in Seattle , why not?

The busses are running on a reduced schedule. You’d want to make sure before you planned on that.

@busdriver11 One option is light rail to UW, then the 372 bus, which heads out on 522 to Lake City Way and then on to Bothell, if that is the direction you are headed. The 372 is on snow route right now, which brings it right next to the UW stadium light rail stop (I assume it will stop there).

The VPN just crapped out on me. Arrrggghhh!!! Okay, IT. I am firing up my personal laptop and will work off webmail if I have to.

Here is the Metro bus info:

What would you do? DD is flying in for business meetings, Issiquah Wednesday, Skagit Thursday, Renton & Downtown Saturday
Renting a car, maybe rent an SUV? Best sites to follow the details of the mess that will be happening?

@somemom For weather forecasts, I like the blog by a UW meteorology professor: https://cliffmass.blogspot.com/ .

Is your daughter experienced with driving in snow and ice? Will those she hopes to meet with commit to making it to the meetings? Lots of events and classes are being canceled this week; many businesses are on shortened hours.

If she must travel to all of those locations, yes, I think she is going to need something good in the snow.

@somemom It’s really hard to say what things will look like weds and on. Cliff Mass has downgraded it a bit but it could easily change and you’ve got a variety of locations there and we have microclimates.

I’d reserve a decent car now to have if you need as availability might be limited.

Oh wow. That is quite an itinerary. Skagit, Renton, Seattle, and Issaquah? Yikes. Can all of her contacts make it to the meetings? There can be quite a topographic diversity within each of these places. Flatlanders can possibly get out just fine, but hill dwellers are likely SOL for a couple of days.

Another 5 inches since the snow started back up at 4pm. Since were in the happy little convergence zone, it’s anyone’s guess what the next few days will bring. As long as I can get to my hand surgeon/OT on Friday I’ll live.

We’ve been talking to a family member who is supposed to get into SeaTac early on Tuesday. If it’s bad, they’ll probably get light rail to downtown and someone will get them there or they can get a bus to Northgate from DT to make it easier.

I think I’m going to attempt to get a trip, but if unable to, will wait till Tuesday and take the light rail, check what busses are running, and then get my husband to go the rest of the distance. Sounds like it’s turning to rain on Tuesday.

Thanks for the help, you all! I did only bring one uniform shirt, but it can be washed.

@somemom If I were her, I’d check in with the people she is meeting with. My entire office (and I mean, ENTIRE office) at a large corporation has everyone working from home today (even me, and I made it in every day last week). They may not be able to make her meetings anyway. This just isn’t a good week to come to Seattle on business… But I’d start with the people she is meeting with if she can – see what they say.

Still snowing in our hood. The office decided to have a late start…

I put the chains on the cars yesterday afternoon while it was still light out. I have two substantial hills to navigate but no issues at all getting to work except I can’t go over about 25 mph. They are staying on until the roads melt off.

Whew. Son’s jury duty in Issaquah was called off.

It’s very quiet outside. Even the neighborhood kids are getting tired of the snow.

There are allegedly a total of 3 people at our office today and one walked. DH and I are hunkered down at home, though to be fair I work from home a lot. He does not and his big corporate company is not a fan of people doing it but even they had to concede.

I’m starting to wonder though what this might mean for my senior. Sounded like 5 snow days would be ok without impacting needed school days for graduation but this week could put us over that. Will be interesting to see!

We ended up with quite a bit more snow last night on top of QA. At least 4 inches. It was beautiful. We walked around and shoveled neighbors walks and threw snowballs. Then we had an impromptu neighbor scotch tasting. So fun. Got some great pictures. My accuweather is showing almost 24 hours of snowfall in the next system but I must say it seems to be thawing out a bit.
