Snowmageddon PNW Edition - Part 2

I haven’t seem my mail carrier since last Wednesday… he’s a little sporadic to start with (I think he just skips our house when he feels like it sometimes). But he’s really AWOL now. We also haven’t had garbage pickup – supposed to be Friday, but then they pushed us to Saturday, and then didn’t come pick up because it snowed. I’ve heard from others on other days last week that they never got picked up last week, either.

D1 is home and cozying up with her fiance and her cats. Her fiance grew up in Iowa, then did grad school in Wyoming, so he has much more experience driving in bad weather than my Dallas girl. She said he was very sweet, and even though he works from home, drove her to work and picked her up afterwards. Hooray for young love. :slight_smile:

Not fun driving in this!! Had to pick D up from work. Stay off the roads if at all possible!!!

I saw on the news tonight that it snowed in Maui! I thought they were joking until I saw the video.

NW Seattle here, a solid 8-10 on the ground after quite a bit of melting before the fresh stuff. It’s definitely wetter snow than it’s been, it’s going to be a sloggy slush fest. School cancelled again and we’ve had some power flickers.

My mom had 2 trees fall but seems ok for now.

@eandesmom
I live in Ballard and my Volvo didn’t cut it. I had to use our 4wd vehicle.

Both my kids schools have canceled classes tomorrow.

Well, my husband was positive it was better for me to come back today instead of tomorrow, though I planned to stay put till Tuesday. It worked out okay. Flew into Seattle, heavy snow and low visibility, had to wait till there was an open gate. Took the light rail to U of W, husband picked me up in the Subaru. All was good because of that car, love that car. A lot more snow here than expected…I thought this would be rain!

My drawing class at a local college that was supposed to start last Tuesday was cancelled last week and again tomorrow. I hope they don’t just throw in the towel on the whole course (only 5 sessions) after I bought a bunch of supplies.

Welcome home, @busdriver11! Subarus rock. Glad kiddo got herself a Crosstrek.

It is raining here cats and dogs!! And all that moisture is being sponged up by the 10 inches of already wet snow! Yikes. Urban flooding!

Uh oh. Just got a Seattle text alert that Seattle City Light is responding to multiple power outages. I wonder if the rain is forming ice on the lines and pulling them down or something. My power is on… fingers crossed.

@BunsenBurner I love my Crosstrek!

Tree branches, most likely. Douglas firs are notorious for losing “limbs” under the weight of wet snow. They are pretty heavy and can snap powerlines and crush transformers. Hope your power stays on!!!

High winds and hard rain for hours here in Portland.
Local news discussed how full all of our fridges are now.
My S and family are less than a mile from UW. DIL is doing a medical rotation evenings and nights. She did not
say where…
Guessing 6 yr old G’son has has school closed. Near Laurelhurst.

We’ve been having power outages and temps of 50s—I know it sounds like nothing but we have no heat because who needs heat in HI?!?!? Didn’t know Maui had snow, but not surprised since they do have Haleakalau.

Many more inches of snow here overnight, and it’s still coming down (although lightly). My neighbor cleared my driveway with his snowblower. He’s an angel!!!

100 miles north of Seattle, it’s been snowing since 2PM yesterday. Our little bottom of the hill block is definitely snowed in and I will be wearing snowshoes, again, to walk the dog. As long as I have internet, I am okay with it.

Wet snow is coming down here northeast of Seattle.

Lol. Amazon was supposed to deliver 2 pairs of socks today. USPS just posted that they did not deliver because “they did not want to leave it unattended.” So… I’m home. They didn’t even try to deliver. And it is socks — our huge wraparound front porch is quite dry and mostly not visible from the street — they’ve NEVER given this excuse for not delivering before. I expect it is our same mail carrier who has not been here since last Wed. Sat in his truck and pretended he’d tried. I’d complain, but complaining to Amazon or the USPS is futile.

@intparent my D in Iowa is still waiting for UPS to deliver part of a Macy’s delivery from 3 weeks ago. They delivered the clothes to her door but won’t deliver the sheets unless she is home. 2 times in the past 3 weeks the delivery notes stated no one was home. Every other time the notes have stated there has been a weather emergency. I don’t know why your socks and D’s sheets need someone at home to accept delivery?

I’m sitting 10 feet from the front door. Have been since 8 am. They didn’t try — it is just an excuse. (Our walk is reasonably clear, too - but can’t say the same for our street)
