Snowstorm and flight cancellation

Hey veteran Ithaca residents, I have a question to ask.

I have a plane flying out of the Ithaca airport in the Monday morning and fear that the snowstorm this weekend will cancel the flights. Can you tell me what happens when my flight gets canceled due to weather in Ithaca? I heard that they sometimes reschedule you to another airport, like Syracuse. But what if I don’t have a car? Will they reschedule my trip to another date? Is there anything I can do at this point, and if the flight is sure to get canceled, do I need even to goto the airport this Monday morning?

I’m dying to go home… Much thanks in advance.

If they reschedule you, they should pay for your transportation to Syracuse. I just had a flight delayed from Reagan last weekend. I wasn’t going to make my connecting flight so they had me fly out of Baltimore and paid for me to take a cab from DC to Baltimore. This was US Airways by the way, one of the few airlines that fly out of Ithaca.

Thanks for the response. Yes, my flight is US Airways as well. I heard from a friend that they just put him in another airport without making any compensations, but that may be another airline.

Any other stories?

The one time I was flying out of Ithaca, I had a connecting flight at LGA, but I booked it with another airline (miles or something). My Ithaca flight got delayed 4 hours, and it was a bright and sunny day. Anyway, It seemed like US Air would pay for whatever I needed to get out of Ithaca (they had some people get on a taxi to go over to Binghamton, not 100% sure if they paid for that), but since the other flight wasn’t US Air, they wouldn’t help with getting me there by a certain time.

Moral of the story - if you stick with one airline, you’re more likely to get help.

I’m not sure if I qualify as a “veteran ithaca resident” but my NWA flight on thursday was canceled due to weather. I was rescheduled to a saturday afternoon departure from Elmira, but I did standby on an Elmira flight on Friday morning, and got out. US Airways is notorious for having awful customer service, but they will pay for transportation, if not, speak with a manager.

I am now in my fifth year of flying kids home from Ithaca to my southern city…both my kids have been treated very well by the folks at the airport even when the problem was of their own making - - check your flight
BEFORE leaving your dorm, and ask for help - USAir once booked my son on a flight out of Binghamton on NWA when things got bad (or the other way around)
I am grateful that there are any flights in/out of Ithaca.
