Just finished shoveling (again) Snow started out nice and fluffy yesterday. Today it is wet and heavy. State hockey tourney is this week and then there are no more excuses for it to snow.

Looks like NJ, NY, CT, RI, MA, and NH are in for some snow on Thursday and Friday. I hear that some areas could get 8-12 inches. I know this is the last thing some of you want since you already have many snow days to make up.

Funny, my weather advisory is not showing anything. My son is scheduled to fly in on Friday from the midwest. I hope his flight is not cancelled or that he has a rough time of it.

The pattern of the snow in MA and NH is funny. Most has 3-6 or less but there’s this round section around Worcester and surrounding that’s supposed to get the 8-12.

Temps will be mid-30s and the timing isn’t bad.

Only a trace to 1" here in Portland. Kind of funny!

We live in southern NJ and while I don’t think we are in any danger from snow, we are feeling the effects of the rain, wind and flooding…and we are still recovering fro Hurricane Sandy.
Our business was damaged from that storm as were others in our area. We JUST finally renovated and it was looking less flood damaged…well my husband and a couple of employees just took a drive into Ocean City to try to bring inventory out of the flood area ( we had a foot of water in the back of the building with this afternoon’s high tide ) They are expecting an additional 12-18 " of water with tomorrow morning’s high tide. There goes the floor ! But the funny thing about it is that my husband will be on tonite’s 11:00 news since they asked to come inside to interview them

The forecast here has changed so many times I don’t know what to believe. We are in the NW corner of CT, and right now, they are calling for a total of 4 inches of snow, most of that happening Thursday night/Friday. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this holds as I get to drive to the airport to take someone for a 4:30 flight Thursday to Seattle. DH is flying back from AZ on Friday. Sheesh.

lje62, my husband is a structural engineer and just performed his last inspection of a house damaged by Sandy. I told him he should expect more calls now. He really feels for you folks - he has heard a lot of amazing stories. He doesn’t determine how much the insurance company pays - he just submits a report detailing the extent of the damage and its cause (wind, rain, storm surge, or a combination).

My school system has already cancelled for tomorrow. We are up to seven snow days. Ugh. They want to evacuate the coast and are using the highs school for a shelter. Not much snow is expected but wind and tidal flooding to surpass the blizzard a few weeks ago. Please let my electricity stay on!!!

Just an inch is being forecast, but light flurries have started tonight but they are not sticking.

Thanks Mainelonghorn
We are not as bad off as many people are since it isn’t our home that was damaged or destroyed , but we had no insurance coverage for what we did lose. We are on our own and have to do what needs to be done to protect our business…we have another location that is more closely in compliance with current building standards. This property we own , but it is small and easy to truck everything out if threatened. We had nothing more than slatwall and a toilet there during the hurricane and it DID get flooded. We claimed nothing with our insurance, yet we are currently battling with our lender since they are trying to force us to but additional policy ( which is extremely pricey and might not even exist as per local insurance companies ) This is so frustrating for people like us

Ugh, I feel for you. Each year, it’s getting harder to find liability insurance for our structural engineering firm. After 9/11, nobody wants to take on any risk, and I guess we’re risky (although we have not had ONE single legal problem in 14 years of business!).

we just got rain a few miles west of DC… boooo

there was some snow, but mostly it just made puddles.

bummer

UVA got 15" of snow yesterday. Classes were cancelled for the third time this year and midterms were postponed.

It was odd driving down a highway with snow on the trees, houses and grass and not a speck of snow on the road.

We’re not supposed to get any accumulation until later in the day or maybe in the evening. It seems like the forecast keeps changing. Ideally, it would arrive tonight and gone so that the plow take care of everything before the morning commute.

aquamarinesea it’s DEFINITELY not 15", more like 8"! But it was definitely very disruptive…!

Well, maybe one poster thinks they can see that area of Virginia from her kitchen window in MD. Sort of like being able to see Russia from Alaska!

dreaming92,

D has a friend who goes to school there. She said they got 15 inches yesterday. The National Weather Service also reported that Charlottesville received 16 inches.

I’m sure whatever snow that falls in the northeast will melt very quickly especially on the roads.

Well I have been looking out my window at the snow for 2 days and I can tell you for certain that it was not more than 10 at the most.

Oh well, water under the bridge (snow under the bridge?)
