So are you going to buy the iPad2?

Barry would have wondered when your friendship went to the next level.

When my brother’s wife got pregnant he ordered some pregnancy books from amazon (before they told anyone). Well, he didn’t realize that the order defaulted to my father’s address (for whom he had last ordered a gift). Boy, was Dad surprised when he got those books! He called my brother and said, “Is there something you want to tell me?”

You have to watch amazon, it often defaults to the last recipient.

Oh, kind of like shoes :)

I was at our local Target yesterday at 6 p.m. They made an announcement saying they were out of IPad2s. I went back to electronics and the DID have IPad 1s. I don’t know how many IPad 2s they had to see.

I too was on the Apple website last night. Really I think the first generation IPad is fine for my purposes…it is shipping within 24 hours. Now to just convince my husband I NEED this…I NEED IT!!

Come on thumper1 - a brash decision in getting the iPad 1 will surely get you kicking yourself in 2 weeks when you wonder why you didn’t get an iPad 2!

I ordered online yesterday morning, and am in the shipping in 5-7 business days bucket. I’m planning to use the ipad when I travel, instead of lugging my laptop.

I looked at it at the mall @ Verizon store yesterday- hard to tell if it was lighter than the first one since they had it chained to an English Mastiff & she kept pulling away.

I would need to get a screen protector as the glossy is annoying- it is bad enough my laptop has a glossy screen- I don’t like it.
I am getting an iphone first anyway- only a month & a half to go!
( thumper you did at least get a refurbed one I hope * huh- i think the prices went up* )

My husband is “researching this”…that means it could take MONTHS for me to get any IPad.

:)

Alright guys, I’m off to my local Target to see if there’s any of the Wifi 16G I want in stock. If not, then onwards to the Apple store.

Have fun. I think we are going shopping this afternoon. Well…I HOPE we are going shopping this afternoon!

Re: new vs. old. I have an old used phone (even though I WANT a new IPhone), a new (how did that happen?) Netbook (well…it’s over a year old but at least I GOT it new), and old most every other kind of technology on the planet. An IPad first generation would serve my purposes just fine. Although I did ask my husband if it was something to consider…1 vs 2 considering the cost differential is not that much.

, was Dad surprised when he got those books! He called my brother and said, “Is there something you want to tell me?”

at least it was a good thing:) Not how to get away with dismembering your spouse in 6 easy lessons or * how to disown your family & still inherit*
That is so funny though.

Although I did ask my husband if it was something to consider…1 vs 2 considering the cost differential is not that much.

That is what often happens.
I didn’t get the first gen itouch for example, & 2nd version was more upgradable.
I think I would also get the 2nd gen ipad,I just have a feeling that when they come out with a new OS the 1st gen may not run it ( like with the 1stG ipod touch)
I would get the very biggest amount of memory I could possibly afford- hard to even conceive that just a few short decades ago that my computer has 18 MB of RAM.

I have 8 GB on my 4th ipod touch ( refurbished) & I could easily use triple that much.
But as soon as I get the iphone, I am giving it to H to read his books on. ( the retina display is * very * nice)

Oh so many things I want.
I haven’t had a desktop computer for years- but my poor eyes really need a larger screen- so waiting for the new imacs. Then I am going to get an airbook …by that time maybe verizon will have the 5th gen iphone.

What I would really like is something that is inbetween the ipad & the ipod touch in size.
About the size of a kindle- but Apple & color.
It doesn’t need a camera- I have a * camera* for that.
Geez, if only I had spent what I spent on my llsi and bought Apple stock…

* I originally bought my llsi Macintosh because H had to use computers at work & absolutely hated them. He would pound on the keyboard if it was taking too long- that worked really well as you could imagine. :eyeroll:
He still doesn’t like them & * now* he even has to use a laptop to catalogue all his work and even use blueprints* He loves his ipod touch though & wanted an iphone too, until I explained to him that because he doesn’t text or email it would be a waste.

But it is nice that Apple is doing so well- I took a lot of flak for years for being a diehard MacAddict from those who smirked that PCs were for * real men*.
They now covet my rainbow apple clingy.
:)

This is a big part of the reason I try very hard to wait for the 2nd generation of anything electronic. And even with that, electronics become outdated very quickly. I’m very happy with my Kindle2 and couldn’t come up with a good reason to get the Kindle3 but just found out that there is a software update with some upgrades I would love to have (real page #'s and a new newspaper and magazine layout) that isn’t available for my Kindle2 which I’ve had less than 2 years!!!

Were they handwriting the notes on the iPad or typing?

Target AND local Apple store out! Not getting a new shipment until Monday or Tuesday morning, drats!

I had a chance to use the iPad 2 for a bit at work before I handed it off to the company president. It feels faster, and the physical redesign is brilliant. The cameras do indeed seem to be limited, but I don’t see why that matters: I still use my SLR and phone for photography anyway. The camera is clearly there just for video chat.

I’m excited to see what the new horsepower means for apps, though. Should be good!

All in all, I’d say if you don’t have an iPad, there’s no reason NOT to upgrade. If you already have one, it might not be worth upgrading unless you NEED the Facetime or better game graphics.

Our experience was pretty calm. We were planning on waiting a month for the initial rush to die down, however…

I walked into a Walmart yesterday at about 1100am to pick up a prescription and just happened to walk by the electronics department which had a sign saying that the iPad 2 went on sale at 5pm. I asked the manager if anyone was in line and she said no, so I was #1 in line :)

Called my bf and told him to come join me and to bring my laptop. He showed up about 30 min later and was #3. We both got us a 64GB+3g. They had 13 in all.

I don’t know for sure, but I have a feeling I am getting one for my birthday this month! If it isn’t an iPad, I am guessing a Kindle; my husband has made mention of both in the last week and my daughter said I am getting a really good gift this year. :)

We have been on a buying freeze for a year and now that things are better I am afraid my husband’s wallet is wanting to spend some time out. While I would love an iPad, it is not something needed at all; I am very happy with my Macbook.

I went to local mall Apple Store c. 8:40 this morning, 9th in line. By the time store opened at 10, easily 60+. Manager said they had sent 200 away empty handed last night. H wanted me to get 64, but I thought 32 was fine (I am not a movie watcher.) They only had 32 AT&T Wi-Fi 3G in white, no 64, so that is what I got. Having great time this afternoon!

They were typing, or more accurate pecking. But it was not an intensive note taking situation. No noise for the typing though.

Do you like the white? Have considered getting a white one but have read reports that suggest that without the black contrast, the screen is not as crisp and colors not as sharp. I have a white net-book, so I pulled it out to compare it to my black laptop and for the first time realized that the screen is framed in black (I’ve had the net book several years and never noticed!). I also have a small white counter-top TV and it is framed in dark gray, so I started to wonder if there isn’t something to the claim that the white case isn’t as good for viewing. Have you noticed a difference?
