So Expensive You Refuse To Buy It

FIFA is not permitting parking at MetLife, public transportation will be $80 - $150 from NYC (to cover NJ’s cost).

$6.99 last week and this week at my NJ ShopRite.

NJ is a major blueberry supplier, so maybe that’s why? This morning at my big grocery store, a pint of blueberries was 6.99. We buy ours in 10lb box from Kiwanis every June, and the price kills me but it’s much cheaper per/pint that way. Thank goodness for the freezer.

But it’s not blueberry season yet…

Regardless I made some delicious blueberry muffins this morning. :blueberries:

My daughter told us that she applied and was picked for a volunteer position in her town.

It won’t be during any games but helping with preparation.

She’s excited. They still didn’t purchase tickets.

Since it’s in her town, I guess she will take the train or uber there. Plenty of options that are not parking!

I would do this. What part of NJ are you in? I’d love to support the Kiwanis AND have lots of blueberries. They are my favorite fruit.

Have heard that sometimes volunteers are allowed to buy tickets at special very low prices—hope your D gets that opportunity!

Fancy workout clothes. Mine are a combination of Macys brand on sale, Old Navy, and Costco. I promised myself when I got to my goal weight I’d splurge for some fancy name brand stuff but I saw the prices in the store and just couldn’t do it. It all kinda looks the same to me. (I do buy good sneakers though.)

I keep trying to think of somethng that I have “given up” because of price but can’t really come up with anything. It occurs to me that I just don’t spend a lot on much of anything. :woman_shrugging:

Shallots. I refuse to buy shallots and pretend white onions are just as good.

I’ve never bought Jeni’s ice cream. I’ve heard from multiple sources that it’s supposed to be so good but the price is ridiculous.
For other things such as steak and scallops it’s more that I buy them much less frequently. And to the poster who mentioned the price of pot roast I totally agree! It’s supposed to be a budget cut!

Our Whole Foods often has Jeni’s 50% off. We stock up then! And it is great!

The last time I paid for a ticket to ANY type of event (concert, sport, play) was in the 80’s. I can’t remember the last time I went to a movie theater. To me, all of these things look and sound better in (the comfort of) my living room, but I avoid people as much as cost as people passed their value threshold for me long ago.

Interesting about fruit. I don’t eat it, so I have no idea what it costs. DH buys berries from Costco, but I couldn’t tell you what he pays for them. He’s still coming home with strawberries, blueberries, and melons, so he must not mind the increases.

It’s largely just the blueberries. Strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, steady price.

As someone else mentioned, Whole Foods sometimes has Jeni’s 50% off. I am pretty sure one of the big sales is right around 4th of July.
My son will buy 20 pints during that time
I will buy a lot also, but maybe not 20 pints.

I really don’t like to spend much on food I eat in my home or at the office. Most days for lunch at home I have seven trader Joe’s potsticker and some veggies like carrots or snap peas or green beans. Lunch almost never costs more than $2. At the office i grab some of the free packs of carrots and hummus and fruit (we always have bananas and oranges and apples available) For dinner most nights I have a salad (lettuce and cabbage) and a protein like salmon. I make my own salad dressing because its better. We go out to eat once a week. We spend a lot on that dinner ($50 to $75/pp is very usual…sometimes more) but I do not care. But I just don’t like to spend money on Panera, Sweetgreen or any place like that. It just seems ridiculously expensive. When I was telling a co-worker about my dinner at a steak restaurant, she responded that she didn’t like to spend that much–didn’t I think spending that much was crazy. But she has a $20-$25 dollar lunch every day. When I pointed out that the $100 I spend on my dinner is equivalent cost to her 5 days of $20-25 lunches when I spend no more than $2/ day or eat free snacks, she was taken aback. She had not even thought about her lunch costs!

A couple of things I rarely buy
Steak - we don’t eat it often, and the steak we make at home is very good, so paying a fortune isn’t worth it for me.
Fancy coffees - I have a very fancy espresso machine at home, but I rarely get fancy coffee out.
I’d say fancy hotel rooms, because they do seem to have gotten very expensive, but we are taking 2 trips in the next couple of moths where we are paying what I consider a fortune on lodging. BUT, it’s a big anniversary for us this year, so we are using that as an excuse.

A $323 ticket for my graduating eighth grader to go to Disneyland (and whatever the other park there is called), with what I call the rich folks’ pass (lightning something?) with her friends for the DAY. No staying overnight. 1) We are not really Disneyland people; 2) It will be miserable on a summer Saturday in June; 3) I’m not a fan of being able to use money to expedite standing in line; 4) Just no.
