Have you used the theatr app? People selling last minute tickets for less, I’ve heard good things. Some of my kids go to the city a lot, my niece lives in manhattan and they have friends in manhattan and Brooklyn. They usually come home but have several couches to crash on.

Come from away was my birthday gift to myself after covid lockdown. The audience sobbed when it ended and the performers were close to tears as well. An experience …so happy for you!

Don’t all hate on me for this, but I got a first day local time slot for LA28 tickets. My husband almost talked me out of it, because he said it was too much. Set of 4 to swim finals with relays and (hopefully) my all time favorite Katie Ledecky for $160 per seat. Also $80 per seat for water polo men’s semis which I can walk to from my house. I’m ridiculously excited even though it’s 2years away!
There are so many things I refuse to spend money on: fancy dinners, expensive clothes and vacations. But I have always wanted to go the Olympics.

Beef. Most restaurant food. Have not been to an “american” food restaurant in a year or more. Just not worth the money. Still go out for Asian which remains cheaper and love the flavors.

My daughter saw Come From Away during COVID at an outdoor venue in DC. THE couple ( the real life ones who met during the incident) were there!
For our family, the play has special meaning because in the 1970’s our plane from London had to make an emergency landing in Gander Newfoundland because of a mechanical issue. They told us they thought they could get it fixed but if not we’d stay the night and that the local people would help us. We thought that sounded crazy but I guess it was true. We got out in a few hours though so didn’t have to test it out.

Downhill skiing. I grew up doing it and would continue but just don’t love it enough to pay for the rental equipment, lift ticket, food and travel. Even with the discounts, it is just too much.

Our local community theater performed Come From Away! It was FABULOUS! I’m glad we were able to see it locally, as I had read a lot about the wonderful people who made this tough time so much better. It seems Gander is better now because of the endowed scholarships that the “people from away” funded which allows their people to get educated and return to their wonderful community!

Salmon is my love, I have a subscription with a company in Boston (I think) and delivery once a month. I used to buy at Costco but could never seem to find the quality (or what I think is quality) from the fish market in New England. It is reasonably priced, not cheap but not outrageous, and it’s in my freezer to eat 3 to 4 times a week. I prefer a simple on stove sautee with crispy skin. The only place I order salmon at a restaurant due to reasonable price, quality (I think), preparation, and service is at Ted’s Montana Grill. Good portions and cooked just like you want it, they actually ask.

Hotel’s mini bar - $5 for water. I think bottled water should be complimentary at hotels.

Yes. I actually won’t eat any snacks or drink any of the drinks at the mini bar - the markup is unreal.

Even where the tap water is safe to drink?
Never understood the high amount of bottled water sales in places where the tap water is safe to drink, since bottled water is far more expensive.

My father in law was very frugal and I always considered getting something from the mini bar an insane expense. But once early on when I was with them on a trip to Boston I announced at 8 pm that I was going to run out and find a convenience store to get a Diet Coke. He told me to get it from the mini bar. I protested that it was $6 ( when you could get a can for like fifty cents) . He shrugged and was like “you’re not going out. And it’s six bucks….who cares”. That really told me something about him that I admired.
