So, How Is It?

Would love to hear from some new frosh at Wesleyan whether it is living up to your hopes and expectations… how does it feel so far??

My son is a freshman, and has been so busy making friends and getting his courses set that we have barely spoken with him. So, that may be why no one is responding to your thread. I would give the frosh at least a month to settle in and form some meaningful impressions, and then repost.

Thanks calgal… you’re right, I’m asking too early, but I hope someone responds eventually!

it is over and beyond my expectations. i love this place!

thanks ubi… but i want details, please!

campus size: # of students is perfect (for me anyway). constantly meeting new people but still easy to find a familiar face when walking down the street or at a party.
student body: one of the first things that I noticed was that everyone here is soo chill. academics-wise, the only pressure you get is from yourself. The students are very supportive and always willing to help each other out. and when it comes to partying… well you’re gonna have to find that out once you get in
campus: to tell you the truth, my first impression of this campus was a bad one. despite it being early august, no students, construction and all, i still thought that it was an odd and not exactly pretty looking campus. but during wesfest, i had a second look and realized how pretty it was. i can’t really describe how it feels to hang out at foss hill on a nice sunny day, but let me tell you, it is a good one.
professors: (so far) i love 'em all. they are amazing lecturers/discussion leaders.
food: food isn’t bad at all. actually i find it pretty darn good at times. you have plenty of options to choose from.
middletown: not exactly huge, but you’ll find plenty of good food and nice little shops. if you don’t like it when you visit here, don’t worry because you won’t have the time to go down there anyway because of the workload you have.

i probably missed some things so let me know if you have any questions.

Now that it’s over a month, I’ll respond for my freshman S, who doesn’t go on CC. He uses phrases like “awesome” and “I love it” when he describes his experience at Wes. I have never heard him so unequivocally positive before. He has gotten involved in 2 sports he has never tried before, and started an intramural team for his dorm for 1 of them. He loves his classes, although one of them is a little over his head and I wish he had not enrolled in it. He has made a lot of friends from all over (his roommate is an international). He likes the food. He hardly speaks to us because he is too busy having fun.
Interestingly, Wesleyan was not even near the top of his college list (too liberal, too out there), but a lucky set of circumstances led him there.
