Applied to UC schools today. UCLA, UCBerkeley, UCSD were the three schools I applied to. UCSD is a lock via the university link transfer guarantee program. I am currently a CC student. Only reason I went to CC was money issues. I currently have a 4.0 GPA and numerous awards including Phi Theta Kappa and a $500.00 scholarship. I’ve taken about 30 units thus far. With these credentials, do you think I have a good chance of getting in to UCLA and Berkeley? If you need any more information let me know. Thank you.

put it under the UC forum.

doesnt look bad to me. what major?

You will need to complete 60 units by end of spring semester. If you do this, complete IGETC as well as Pre-Reqs for your major, you will have a very good chance of being admitted. Be sure to write a strong personal statement and do not write anything like “the only reason I went to CC is because of the money” in your personal statement. You can talk about hardships you’ve had to overcome (going to a CC is not a hardship, by the way), but talk about what you learned and how it made you a stronger person.

my major is polisci with pre law emphasis.

how are you going to get the other 30 units? TAG won’t work unless u reach 60.

im taking 16 now and 14 next semester.

also i was wondering if these schools do any background checks on you, like call your teachers and such?

Make sure you absolutely complete the 60 unit minimum and get igetc certified.

And no they don’t do background checks lol. The UC system does audit 10% of all applicants though, which requires those selected to submit supplemental documentation for everything reported in their apps.

Is this audit random or for those with what looks to be bogus apps?

also i should add that for job experience for my major i worked in a law firm last summer as a legal assistant.

it’s completely randomly selected…i would recommend being as honest as possible in your application–the potential ramifications of false info just aren’t worth it. plus the UC’s will probably like you for who you are, lol.

also you seem to have strong credentials–you should be fine for ucb and ucla assuming everything else is in line / make sure you write awesome essays

Honestly your chances are probably not that good since it is pretty obvious by your own postings that you had to stretch the truth in order to try and get in. Sucks to be you.

im sorry you feel that was edward. have a nice day!

oh…i didn’t see that you already submitted your app…

if you feel like you stretched the truth anywhere in your app, i highly recommend that you make any appropriate amendments to your app asap. If not out of fear for being caught and punished, then you should do it just because it’ll make your admission that much more rewarding.

also, is it just me or have there been a LOT more threads and topics about “stretching the truth” in apps this year? kind of a bizarre trend with collegeconfidential’ers this year…

thanks for the tip poppin, but i think i am good. if anything i didn’t put my complete job experience! The reason I asked is because they might be suspicious of someone who puts 4.0 as it might seem to good to be true. If this is the case, myself with a legitimate 4.0 would have to go through the hassel of submitting proof, which is a nuisance I don’t want. But since it is random, as you said, I don’t have to worry as much.

Well you’re either off to a very good start on that pre-law route you mentioned by trying to deflect why you were really worried about an audit, or you didn’t happen to know that you submit your transcripts to the UC you commit to when decisions come out next spring in order for them to corroborate your application.

I didn’t know that Edward, thanks for the heads up!

Being fraudulent at any point in the admissions process is not OK. If the UCs find out, you can have your degree revoked even after you graduate. This is true for all universities and they do are pretty strict about that from what I hear.

Lol now I am worried that just this thread it going to get my audited. Thanks alot! :D
