So I only got in the top 12%. How will this effect my admissions.

This year I only got in the top 12% and now i’m rethinking whether or not I will be accepted into Princeton. My following years of high school will be filled with honors classes that I plan to excel in. However, I can’t help but feel that because I didn’t get in the top 10% my freshman year that I won’t get accepted. So is there a chance I could find my future to include an acceptance letter from Princeton?

You’re a freshman - there is lots of time to work on your grades, class rank and EC’s before it’s time to apply to college. Being inside the top 10% at your school isn’t some magic number…admissions looks at lots of things from course rigor to the school overall - how competitive it is etc. The best thing you can do for yourself right now is to work hard at classes/standardized test prep, build relationships with teachers and mentors, engage in some EC’s you really love and try to enjoy the high school years.

@mdscimat18 Do not mold your high school life around what you believe will result in a future that provides “an acceptance letter from Princeton.” Follow your dreams & study hard & anything will be possible! Also, definitely build the relationships with teachers, as @Cantiger mentioned. If I could go back and do it all again, that is the one thing I would work on.
