So...I visited UCSD today

and I fell in love with the place! It’s so homely and friendly, it’s nice! I like the very relaxed, laid-back atmosphere…so nice.

A few questions I have -

at Warren, they say that you can replace you PofCs with a minor…are they of the same length, number-of-courses-wise?

How quick a walk is the beach from Warren/Geisel/that general area?

Im also interested in doing the EAP program, but is that recommended for engineers?

Thanks in advance!

Yay! I’m so glad to hear that!

1, Yes you can replace a PofC with a minor except a PofC is 6 classes and a minor is 7 classes, so you just need to take one more class to get a minor.

Depends on how fast you walk, but I estimate 20-30 minutes

Studying abroad is always recommended for any major because its a whole different experience. Go here: http://pao.ucsd.edu/pao/pdffiles/newcsemap.pdf

What kind of information did they give out? Was it mainly just a tour? I’ve already seen the campus and sent in my SIR, but couldn’t go to admit day because of work. Was there any vital info they gave out or was it just to give people a feel of the school?

thank you clarkforbes!
I find that link pretty and all your feedback rather useful. I really like UCSD!

pisces8519: since Im in Warren college, they talked about the college, the dorms in the college, they gave us a housing tour. After that, I took an hour-long campus tour, which was super nice! And lastly, since I got in for engineering, I got to hear from and tour the engineering facilities. Very nice and convincing overall!

It was fun. But I just realized I forgot to go to the honors program reception. I was touring the res halls. Does anyone that went or has gone in the past know if there was anything very significant that I missed there?

There is nooooo way you could get to the beach in 20 minutes from Warren. try 40-50 minutes. It takes like 20 or 30 from the Muir side of campus to get down the cliff. I highly recommend taking the bus to la jolla shores.

yeah, there is is no way you can make it from the warren/geisel area in less then 20 minutes. if you plan to go to the beach occasionally, i would bring a bike, skateboard, etc. to get from your area to the beach. or you can take the shuttle if u prefer that.

I got free food in buffet style…muwahahaha!

Im also thinking of being an RA after going on that housing tour.
Do they lead good social lives?

I totally recommend taking the shuttle to the beach over walking. the shuttle that goes to La Jolla Shores is free with your ID anyway.

haha our RA seems to have a pretty good social life, though she is pretty stressed out at times since RAs have a lot of activities they are involved with over the year.

glad to hear that you enjoyed it here!! :)

@khoagng: engineering ftw

Where can we RSVP for the orientation in June?

After visiting UCSD for the first time today, I can honestly see how this “triton eye” theory came about…

Hahahha whatever, most students weren’t even on campus because it’s a weekend and they either a) went home or b) live off campus

its people like jamesbball who like to keep adding fuel to these stupid myths. i counted more hot chicks at sd then at irvine, la, or cal. and this was when class was in session. if you cant find the right person at ucsd, you have sdsu a good drive away.

Wish I could say the same…I found the campus quiet and lacking in something I felt from LA. I never took a campus tour either, which I probably should have, and someone mentioned today wasn’t SD’s best weather. Nor did I consider that many students were off-campus. The thing about LA is that I find the campus slightly too small, albeit it I love and miss it much more than I thought I would. I do prefer the openness of SD’s campus, aside from the gray buildings and quiet…

Can someone convince me otherwise? I got into Muir College as a biology major, and heard that SD is #1 in Biological Sciences : D

I thought that there were plenty of cute girls at UCSD. Its not all about looks anyways, if you can meet someone with a great personality, their cuteness goes up.

@maylix, we can tell you a million times how much WE love UCSD but ultimately it is you that will have to live with your choice for 4 years. We can’t make you love it if you just don’t feel like you fit in. Good luck with your decision
