<p>I believe that the Women in Science program is paired with the Infectious Diseases Program in two halls in Ware. </p>
<p>Using this question as a jumping off point… do you think sticking a whole bunch of driven women all in one section could be somewhat stifling? Generally, are these people very focused on the task at hand (sciences) or do they still know how to have fun (of course while still enjoying the benefits the women in science program provides, such as speakers, etc.)? I am really interested in this programs, except I am worried that the atmosphere of a bunch of competitive girls could get old. Of course, the added benefits of be surrounded by possible study group partners would be fantastic.</p>
<p>yeah i was worried about the same thing. hopefully it won’t be that much of a program, i think i’m definitely applying for it though. and if infectious diseases is there, then it wont be just girls, so the estrogen levels will be slightly balanced out. to answer your question about studying and having fun, i know for sure that i’m going to be social. there is no way i’m locking my self up in my dorm room all the time. so maybe when everyone else is, we can hang out :)</p>
<p>I live close to the Women in Tech hall (which is situated in 4rd floor Bodine, in Ware, a somewhat isolated location). I know several of the people in the program. They all do slightly different things… enginering, biotech, etc and they study together in the lounge on a fairly regular basis. They are definitely more collaborative than competitive. As for social lives, they are not strictly book worms. They KNOW how to have a good time. </p>
<p>On another positive note, their rooms are <em>fantastic</em>–very large, great upper quad location, with sinks. The only downside here is that the ladies have occasionally bemoaned the fact that their hall is “boring” since it lacks those colorful characters whose inebriated antics are simultaneously the light of our lives and the bane of our existence. I guess it depends on what you’re looking for…</p>
<p>on a negative note for that same program, the women in tech hall, a few of the girls i know there say that the people in that hall arent as social as one would hope from a quad hall. i don’t know if this represents the majority opinion of people from there, but i remember her saying “everyone stays in their rooms.”</p>
<p>however, this same girl, along with some others, is quite social, so it’s not a complete and utter generalization. i’m just repeating what the girl in the hall told me.</p>
