So many acronyms on this site

“My D27 applied ED1 to RPI CS with 750M/780RW, 34 ACT, DECA, good ECs and LORs (waived FERPA right!). Got in, but EFC is too low cause we’re FGLI and URM even though we submitted FAFSA. D also got deferred from UIUC (LAC) and needs to write a LOCI. How to let AOs know? Can we shotgun HYPSM/T20? Should we try getting a scholarship through RXJKDSJEODX?”

I love College Confidential.

I understand the rest, but this one has me stumped.

So many acronyms on this site

Other than D27 possibly, they’re not unique to this site . And many, like EFC and FAFSA, are courtesy of the acronym factory that is the federal government.

But for those wanting a primer on acronyms commonly used, this thread will help

And of course, EFC has been replaced with SAI…

I think they meant they were baffled somebody would complain about paying too little to a school

LAS at UIUC is a LLAC!

The funny thing is this just scraches the surface of all the acronyms. How are people doing this for the first time supposed to figure it out lol.

There’s a wiki post explaining all the CC acronyms but I don’t think a newbie would know this exists.

You mean the one I posted upthread?

Oops! My bad.
Missed that.

FERPA is my favorite abbreviation but some of the colleges themselves are obscure

UIUC
WUStL
IUPUI
TXA&M-CC

I think these are relatively well-known to those that have been around.

But once you get into non-flagships and partnerships, that audience is really self-selecting anyway.

Not really sure how UIUC and WUSTL are obscure schools? Both very well known!

To tell the truth when I see those I forget what they are. Being on the west coast I may have heard of the full name but the abbreviations trip me up.

I meant the acronyms not the schools. Sorry

No – LAC suffices, as the presumption is that LACs are small.

Unless the S is meant to convey something not as obvious like Selective, Salacious, Sleepy, etc. And if that’s the case, the adjective should be defined.
