so many things...

ok guys i got some questions because i am getin worries about some stuff at ucsb.

first off, did anyone check their financial award letters? for me, it says under my cal grant that it is ‘not confirmed’ while all of my other grants are confirmed. whyis this? does anyone else’s say ‘not confirmed?’

second, does anyone know if we NEED to buy the insurance? “USHIP” as they call it?

and lastly…this is my biggest one.
i enrolled to math 3b at orientation because i thought i would get a 3 on my AP calc test,…turns out i got a 5, and now i have to go into math 3c.
its past both of my first two passtimes, and my third passtime is september 22nd, and it is SO close to the first day of school! im pretty sure there will be no more space in the math 3c courses by my third passtime, so how am i going to get into math 3c???

let me know if anyone has solutions, or similar problems

I can answer the insurance question. If you or your parents don’t currently have health insurance for you that is approved by UCSB then you are required to pay for the USHIP insurance fee. I believe that its automatically charged into your account unless you submit the insurance waiver. My mom’s Kaiser was denied because there wasnt a kaiser within a 25 mile radius of campus, but luckly my dad’s blueshield was approved.

For the math question:

First off, don’t panic. If you don’t get into math 3c this quarter, it’s so not a big deal. At your third passtime, there might be spots left. If not, welcome to crashing. There are ways to improve your chances at crashing a class, but frankly, as a first quarter freshman for a class that you don’t need this quarter, you’re the absolute lowest priority. Still, you can first check the departmental website and see if they have a crash list there (some departments do, some don’t). If not, email the professor and tell him/her the situation and ask if there are any steps you should take to improve your chances of getting into the class. Once again, you’re low priority, but some professors really value the early birds with this thing and will ask you to put if you emailed them or not. I’ve been in classes where all crashers who had NOT emailed the professor were told to leave, leaving the lottery up to those who had.

Aside from that, keep checking for openings (when the last passtimes open up, people will drop as well as add and if you can sneak in during a window, you’re in), attend the first day of class and the professor will tell crashers what to do.

The Cal Grant will not be confirmed until “the State passes the 2008-2009 budget in mid-summer and we are authorized to pay the awards.”

Mine also says not confirmed.

don’t worry about math 3c. i added it inmy third pass time too and even if it is full and you can’t add it then wait a week or so until after the class starts because people will drop it. just make sure you go to the lecture even if you aren’t technically enrolled in it. math classes are pretty easy to crash since a ton of people end up dropping them. in the worst case senario, if you end up not being able to add math 3c at all, it is not a big deal because it is offered every single quarter. I took math 3c my fall quarter as a freshman and it was quite interesting. MAKE SURE YOU GO TO CLAS!!
