So Matlab is free for Berkeley students!?!? How do I get it?

<p>I’ve looked at [Matlab</a> | UC Berkeley IST](<a href=“http://ist.berkeley.edu/software-central/matlab]Matlab”>http://ist.berkeley.edu/software-central/matlab) but I still don’t understand the instructions.</p>

<p>Since I’ve never had Matlab on my computer before, what steps do I use to get the license? How do I get a license? </p>

<p>As a substitute, you can try [GNU</a> Octave](<a href=“http://www.gnu.org/software/octave/]GNU”>GNU Octave) .</p>

<p>if you can get a job from the school (grader, etc.), you can get all the programs on the IST list you want for free.</p>

<p>yeah I currently use Octave and it’s great, but if Matlab was free, I would have still wanted it. Thanks guys!</p>

<p>And I am doing undergrad research this semester so maybe I’ll ask my prof.</p>
