So much mail!

I am surprised at the amount of mail that my D has been receiving from UCF. She applied to the school in July and seems to have gotten at least one if not two postcards every week from the school. While nice to see, I wonder why, when we hear so much about budget cuts and financial difficulties among the Florida public colleges, they would waste so much money on advertising. They certainly don’t need to appeal to more students…the school is pretty HOT right now.

I suppose the post cards cost pennies on the dollar, and the investment may be worth it in terms of making the students feel wanted/welcome and make them consider going there. I know we got a kick out of getting them in the mail, and I think DS enjoyed feeling as though he was wanted. It was part and parcel of the big picture: inviting him to join the honors and leads programs, UCF students calling him to talk on the phone, the post cards and other little mailings … they all worked together to make him/us feel as though this might be a good fit for him.

zebes

Yeah, we like it too. D smiles when she sees them but I just wonder if the money would be better spent on all the things that have been discussed (budget cuts) lately.

I think it’s one of the nice things they do. Getting something from the University even if it’s advertizing keeps you in contact and it does give you a feeling that you are wanted. For many of these kids can be a long process, hearing something from time to time is a nice touch. Quite the opposite from UF and FSU.

FSU did send her a lovely calendar though. :)
