So What Are You Really, Really Good at?

I’m with bromfield, a long time and excellent poster, but humble

I don’t think making good cookies count

Since whistling has been mentioned, I was shocked to learn my S is really, really good at whistling. I discovered he had this talent at a HS choir concert where he had a featured whistling solo. Afterwards, my H mentioned his grandfather had won some whistling championships.

I’m good at knowing what time it is, even if I haven’t seen a clock in several hours.

I can pick out a flattering pair of eyeglasses or sunglasses. I’ve done it for my family, my siblings and their family members. H likes to tell the story that when we were dating, he wore black RayBan Wayfarers sunglasses. When he lost that pair, I told him that he would look better in tortoise RayBan Clubmasters. He did, and I was right.

A couple more after reading some posts that reminded me:

Needlework. DH once took a piece of mine into a shop for framing and said the owners cooed over the back. (“Is that a thing? Was I supposed to let them look?”)

Kerning text, and other things. I seem to have a knack for distributing visual weight. Maybe there’s correlation or causality with the needlework.

Public speaking.
Math
Making lists
Getting knots out of anything
Reading fast
As you can tell from my list- embracing my inner nerd.

@FallGirl’s post reminds me … I am also very, very good a public speaking. I can talk to anyone, anywhere, any time. I do not feel intimated in any situation. Which is weird, because I am an introvert & would describe myself as shy with people I do not know well.

@bookworm , making good cookies is a true talent! (One I certainly appreciate. :)).

The thread about car/suv reminded me of another good thing about me. I was excellent at getting the suv to hold all of the college things when H would have abandoned stuff (remembered when he thought pillows should be abandoned for the trip home). Packing for vacation- I can get so much to fit a suitcase and car as well. It’s called organization. Works for the dishwasher , too.

I am good at a lot of things (including loading the dishwasher and Foley catheters LOL and not including parallel parking), but I haven’t become really amazing at any one thing. I do seem to have a great talent for online research that, if known by the world at large, would probably get me a far better job than I have now. Alas, the interwebs weren’t a thing when I was a young 'un, so I didn’t know that talent until many years after I made all the wrong turns in my education and career (more LOL)

I am really good at killing a thread!

I am good at finding a way to relate to just about anyone, and start conversations, making them feel listened to in the process. Hearing others stories and learning from just about anyone certainly enriches my life. Because I am used to working with non native speakers of English, I can help them learn culture and language better than many. Otherwise, am good at problem solving, and keeping things calm and logical at times of crisis.
Give me a random assortment of food items in a new kitchen and I can improvise a meal. Give me a spot on the globe, and I can improvise an interesting travel itinerary.
