Mini bagel with cream cheese and lox for breakfast.
Veggie lasagna for dinner with some nice red wine.
Breakfast was 2 eggs and grilled salmon and country potatos. Lunch was 1/2 an apple, 1/2 an orange and handful of mixed unsalted nuts. Dinner was chicken and sausage with pasta.
Leftover beef stew for breakfast, small bowl lol. Ordered chinese for lunch. Had it for lunch, dinner, and again lunch today. Tonight I’ll try to be healthy…seared tuna, sauteed shrimp and broiled zucchini.
I had a banana and a cup of coffee very early this morning. Later, shopping at Whole Foods, I was starving, so I picked up an egg and cheese on some sort of biscuit to eat in the car. It was pretty awful, but I ate it just to get rid of it – would have smelled up the car and there wasn’t a trash nearby. It was greasy and probably 800 calories – the whole thing made me kind of mad.
For lunch I had a bowl of chicken escarole soup that I made yesterday. For dinner, planning on grilled marinated steak tips, quinoa, and a green salad made with the escarole I didn’t put in the soup, tomatoes, and green onions.
Breakfast - scrambled egg, half a bagel with cream cheese and rhubarb jam. Coffee. Lunch - turkey soup and 3 or 4 chips with left over salsa. Dinner - leftover Chicken pieces roasted with onions, zahtar and pine nuts. I’ll probably saute a zucchini for a vegetable. Salad.
There are some really healthy eaters on this thread and some super ideas. I am a big fan of yogurt but, as I read this thread, I realize I don’t actually eat it often. I have the exact same relationship with cottage cheese. I am a big fan of it but hardly ever eat it. I borrowed an idea I got from #12. Pecans on waffles/pancakes. That just makes sense so I tried it and it was delicious this morning.
I then got up early enough to make another BBQ chicken based salad for lunch, which I took to work. I added the black olives this time and the two cheeses (goat and the cocaine looking stuff from the fridge) but forgot to mention one of the key ingredients in my OP. Black beans. BBQ chicken thighs, black beans, romaine, baby spinach and whatever else you want but without the black beans it will not work. The black beans are an essential part of the meal.
I might borrow a few more ideas from this thread. The things put on bagels sounded really good and having yogurt plus fruit as a side dish makes sense too.
Breakfast: Yogurt I made in my Instant Pot (which I got after reading the instant pot thread on CC)
Lunch: Quinoa with roasted beets, cucumbers, feta and a little red wine vinaigrette.
Dinner: Salad greens with hard boiled egg, asparagus, avocado and chicken.
Trying to eat better. We’ll see how long this lasts!
@GoNoles85 When you can get fresh, local corn, put some of that in your BBQ salad along with some avocado.
I like this thread as long as everyone is pretty honest. I mean, it’s ok if you eat a cupcake or two once in a while.
It’s good for others to see what others eat - literally, day in and out. It helps us evaluate our own diet, if we’re doing ok, makes us open to new ideas and can help to get us in check.
My day today:
Breakfast - poached egg, homemade dollop of yogurt over a mixture of blackberries/blueberries ( i microwave these fruits on the weekend with a little sugar and then use the juicy compote all week on yogurt) and some homemade granola on top!
Lunch - leftover herb lemon chicken and mashed potato.
Snack - a few baby carrots, 4 club crackers and some Trader Joe Pub Cheese
Dinner - Roast beef with carrots, onion and mushrooms.
There will probably be a sweet snack before I hit the sack.
And truth, I bought some paczki to bring to work for Fat Tuesday tomorrow - I don’t even really like them that much! (I prefer donuts!)
This thread has informed me that I eat like a pig compared to most of the people who have replied so far. But I am thin to begin with and a guy so … maybe I need more calories? I don’t know. I had two tortilla chips, more chicken chunks all topped with a little cheese and black olives and jalapenos for dinner because I just didn’t feel like making anything better. I have no idea how many calories I took in today. I will say this, I exercise regularly so that has to count for something and I will be buying fresh raspberries next time I am at the store. haven’t had them in forever but have had blueberries and blackberries recently and eat BB’s and strawberries all the time. You absolutely can’t go wrong with fresh fruit as a side.
“I like this thread as long as everyone is pretty honest. It helps us evaluate our own diet, if we’re doing ok, makes us open to new ideas and can help to get us in check.”
Is this thread intended to be about that though? I didn’t get the impression it is meant as another diet thread.
I had coffee and scrambled eggs at the airport. Then flew. Then landed. On the next flight I had a gin and tonic and an airline bag of pretzels. It was delicious. Then landed and had a very long drive home. I was starved. Halfway there stopped at a favorite local foodie bar and had a local beer and burger and fries. I did not eat the bun. I did get a scoop of ice cream at a shop down the block, but only ate a few spoons because I don’t think I even like ice cream any more. I really liked the beer, a stout I’ve had before and the beef which is from a local farm. I will have my vegetables tomorrow, because I don’t want anything else tonight.
I guess it’s perspective @doschicos - because I didn’t at all mean any reference to a “diet thread”. Make us open to new ideas - means things like putting pecans on your waffles. Evaluate your own diet - might mean, hmm…I don’t even think I ate any fruit today - which is just about having fruit, not saying “eat only fruit because it’s low cal!”.
Get us in check might mean, wow I never eat breakfast because to me breakfast means a bowl of cereal - I never thought about something like leftovers for breakfast - so makes you take notice of how you eat - not what you eat.
Perspective.
And edited to say that I mentioned the idea of cupcakes for the point of don’t be afraid to post your food just because your calorie intake wasn’t pristine - which means I exactly WAS not making it a diet thread!
Carry on.
Today a coffee drink made at home with double strength half caf and foamed almond milk, and a whole wheat English muffin w natural peanut butter.
Lunch - turkey on wheat with Swiss, tomatoes, & mustard. Black grapes, Skinny Pop white cheddar, and 2 homemade chocolate chip cookies plucked from my freezer and packed in my lunch.
Snack - almonds, and 1/4 of a long John with maple frosting & bacon on it.
Dinner - leftover beef burgendy with baby carrots & mashed potatoes. And a glass of red wine.
Breakfast: smoothie made with banana, frozen berries, almond milk, and a dollop of strained Morwegian vanilla yogurt (better than Greek yogurt IMO)
Snack: a few crackers with cheese
Lunch: leftover vegan cassoulet made with white beans, veggies, tomatoes, and tempeh cubes (not a vegan but it was good!).
Dinner: Tex-mex chicken enchilada casserole made with cauliflower rice, chicken, corn, and flour tortillas, topped with chopped avocado.
Has anyone admitted to dessert? I made some chocolate chip cookies today for D and heck yeah, I had some when they were still warm!
“1/4 of a long John with maple frosting & bacon on it.”
@intparent How’d you limit yourself to just a 1/4? That sounds awesome. =P~
Um… that was what was left in the box of donuts I walked past at work today.
Someone else had cut off and eaten 3/4 of it.
I’ve had a salad and pork tofu casserole for brunch with 1/2 a bowl of rice. H had a salad and bowl of beef soup with a full bowl of rice for brunch. For dessert, I had a scoop of rocky road ice cream with whipped cream and H had coffee jello. We skipped lunch (since we were both full from the late brunch) and for dinner we are having leftover chicken/sausage spaghetti and leftover steak from last night.
I didn’t know that this was a diet-related thread. This is just fairly normal for us to eat maybe two meals a day and have fruit and/or nuts if we are hungry between meals. I’ve never been on a diet in my life, nor has H. We’re pretty close to “ideal” BMI on most charts that we’ve seen–around 22 or so. Our kids are a bit lighter on BMI.
Not a “diet related” thread in the losing weight sense. Just, was was in your “diet” today - diet meaning, what you ate.
OP can share his original intent to clarify.
This is very much a “what did you eat today” thread not as much a “how are you dieting thread.” I didn’t look to see if there were other threads about dieting, I should have, but didn’t. I just wanted to compare notes with other folks my age. I appreciate honesty. We don’t always eat as well as we should. But that is okay. We are human and if we want to indulge ourselves with food it is okay.
Not everyone has a positive body image.
I can think of a number of things about my body/shape/looks that are not perfect. Yet, I feel like I was given a fair deal by the Big Man Upstairs and it is my job to take care of what I have.
I ran cross country and participated on the weightlifting team in high school. I was not a good athlete but, giving myself a little credit, not many guys can run and lift well pound for pound so I wasn’t all that bad athletically either. The point is, if I told you what weight class I was in, you’d laugh. I was small to be sure. I evened out to a respectable weight as a senior and I am 20 pounds bigger than I was in high school and take some pride in that.
So, it is only natural, for a what did you eat thread to discuss calories and diets. It will happen. And that is okay. Some people are bigger than I am and carry it well. Some folks can’t hardly make it from their car to the office without passing out. I don’t make fun of them. They have it tough. Even me, mister rail thin, mister I can eat anything and as much as I want, has something around my gut that will not go away no matter how much I work out.
It happens.
I can sweat it off if I cut back on food because the heat is coming next month.
But even a skinny guy like me can relate to that little pouchy area. Mine used to worse and now it is pretty flat on the front side, sit ups and crunches work, but on the sides I can pinch an inch or so and it is somewhat humorous and somewhat annoying. Please share and discuss without judgement. What did you eat today?
If the thread carries over to day by day and if we borrow ideas from each other good! If you realize you are eating, perhaps, a bit too much and this thread helps you moderate good! No one is perfect.
