My favorite gift will be both kids, H & I together, seriously. Plus, my folks in good health to celebrate with us, whom I think we’ll take out for a nice meal.

Not sure what I want – guess H and I want to get a couch that fits our bodies AND the electronic vacuum cleaner fits under nicely, as well as a good home for our existing couch that still has plenty of wear left in it as a lovely hardwood futon couch.

Well, My husband already bought me car mats (really nice ones mind you!) delivered to to the house several weeks ago. haha. Not really what I had in mind, but I am OK with it. I would love a GC to Lord and Taylor for clothes. H gave me a big one last year and I loved it. I was still using it a few months ago. Yes, I did buy some boots for 13yo D but it saved me from spending “my” money on the boots. I really like GC to local restaurants, cinemas, etc. Anything that saves me money day to day is wonderful in my book. Although I appreciate anything I get.

I would like a bottle of my regular perfume that is running low, a large cashmere shawl with a long suede fringe - (the Flamenco shawl from Loro Piana), a certain chunky yellow gold bracelet I’ve been eyeing, and a trip with my family to somewhere warm and relaxing.

Want D to paint me a picture, son to make me another music mix (otherwise I would never listen to anything new), H to get my car detailed (I hate that stuff).
I bought myself a small 19" IT luggage (black friday sale)which I was going to wrap but instead am using tomorrow. SUPER lightweight. Guess by tomorrow I’ll know if it’s as good as I hope it to be. I’ve filled it up and it weighs the same as my other case empty.
I bought some leggings because of that other thread…then I bought another pair–SO comfy. Fortunately I already had some long tops that work with them.

Last year, H got a pair of tickets to Wicked, so we went twice–once just the two of us with the gifted tickets and once with D with the trio of tickets we had purchased. Liked it better the 2nd time with D.

Gifts of experiences are very nice. We gave the kids a very nice meal as their main birthday gift, when we were all together in DC at a nice restaurant. D even brought her former college room mate, who is attending law school in DC.

In September, I begged D2 to get her act in gear, explained no funds for any oopsies that delay a May graduation. This kid has done the leap in the last few months. Her thesis is done, she did a first presentation a few days ago and everyone’s happy. Even better, she loved that project and seems to have found a direction. That’s my gift.

But we’re also going on a trip to see D1, in a foreign land. Just stocking stuffers, for us.

All I’m wanting is for H’s surgery to fix his pain so he can sleep in a bed again. All going well we should be exiting the hospital on Christmas day.

Beyond that, and Peace on Earth, and my children finding great opportunities, DH and I are giving each other new iPad airs. Bought before Thanksgiving, just not set up yet.
At this point most of our giftees want experiences, not stuff. Even our kids prefer experiences or gift cards along with some fun little stuff.
Spent the day making a special snack that we send to our sibs.

So I keep suggesting to my H that we not exchange gifts. I often, honestly, do not like what he gets me and I have no idea what to get him. I feel really bad when I do not like what he gets me and I also feel sad that he does not seem to know me after 30 years.

For instance, for my 60th birthday last month, he got me jewelry that is so not me and I have no where appropriate to wear it even if I wanted to. And it is not real stuff, ie gold, silver or platinum. But it was bought from the Met., so I know he was trying to be creative.

So, given we both woke up this morning and said we need a new mattress, I suggested we buy ourselves a new mattress as a gift to ourselves. But he wants us to have something to open on Christmas. We WILL buy a mattress as we just bought two new cars. But it is maintainance, not gifts.

Ugh. I will probably suggest the vacuum I mentioned. He will be happy giving me a gift. I will buy him a watch or something.

morrismm, maybe the time has come for you to exchange Christmas lists. Give each other a list of items to pick from, so you are still surprised but each get something you want. Include the link to internet sites for items. Or agree to buy each other an “experience” of some kind - tickets to some performance you would both like to see, a hot air balloon ride, dinner at a pricey new restaurant that you wouldn’t normally splurge on, or a mini vacation someplace you both want to see.

Or some families have a person who is the “gift clearing house” person. The person everyone tells what they want because they know everyone else is going to ask that person what to buy. It was my mom in our family, but she had a stroke this past year. So… D1 seems to have picked up the slack this month, to my surprise. Maybe one of your kids could/would pick up this role. But I think the lists might work better…

morrismm–following up on teriwtt’s great suggestion……here is a tag line I remember from a bedding ad campaign from 30 years ago: “After all, it’s a third of your life.” Now, if I could only manage to sleep eight hours/night, that would be true!

Other bedding-related items you can open Christmas morning: a heated mattress pad (brilliant invention and sold at Costco for far less than BB&B), new down pillows or a new duvet (fabulous ones at Cuddledown but not inexpensive), and for real indulgence, a cashmere throw. Cuddledown allows you to have the duvet made up with different amounts of down on each side in case one person wants a heavier duvet than the other.

vballmom–my husband just did that for me last weekend. I only learned of the free Amazon Prime TV show service recently. The process was not effortless as we have a TiVo attached to the TV where I want access to Amazon, and no one remembered that TiVo even had a password. He may have had to bring the Roku device upstairs to that TV. I don’t think it works via Apple TV (and I don’t know why we have all of these devices since no one ever seems to watch anything).

I will have to ask him about this tomorrow. We have CAT 5 behind that TV but I am guessing everything is running wirelessly these days.

I bought fleece lined leggings, there were tights, too, at Nordstrom Rack today for me and the D’s. #1D got the tights a couple of weeks ago and loves them. $7 was hard to beat.

We’re headed off for a week in Paris starting next Thursday, so that’s the big gift for the year. I want all 4 of us to have fun and enjoy the time together.
Other than that, there are a few books I’d like.

H went and bought some new TiVo thing. #1D thinks she can stream Amazon through it. I will sit back and wait for them to make it work.

CT1417 thanks for thinking about this. I’ve got CAT6 behind the TV. It’s plugged into an LG TV box that, according to the amazon.com website, isn’t supported.

MaterMia: did you purchase fleece tights or fleece lined tights. I have only been able to find the fleece lined online. Wondering what is the difference?

We are at -9 here in Wyoming so these types of products are helpful! I am sick of wearing pants.
