<p>I’m a 2007 Ivy league alum who’s helping out someone apply to undergrad this year. The applicant is sending me the weirdest essays to review.</p>

<p>I think what you’re seeing is the result of increased levels of anxiety due to falling admissions rates at select schools, and the accompanying desire to stand out from the crowd by writing a “unique” essay. Then again, perhaps you’re just getting weird essays from a weird kid!</p>
