congrats! what are your grades/ SATs?

They’re decent but not as good as some of the CCer’s!

28 ACT
3.94 u/w
4.6 w
4th/~350
7 APs and about 18 credits from a community college
lots of ECs incl sports, comm service and county and state level leadership positions
job with like 12hrs/week

…I also applied as a female for engineering which I believe helped me somewhat.

I am very happy that I got it but it also makes my college choice that much harder. I don’t really like the big school atmosphere, sprawling campus, and somewhat segregated engineering program at South Carolina but my first choice school is almost $30K a year more. I won’t find out about my acceptance and scholarship from that school until mid April but if I don’t get something really significant from them I’ll probably be heading to USC or my state school, UMD(where I’ve gotten into the honors program).

Good luck!

wow, you are lucky to have so many options i was really just deciding between USC and JMU, fortunately USC is my top choice tho. good luck deciding and congrats again on the scholarship

To be honest, I don’t really have that many options. I applied to ten schools… seven of which were out of my price range without scholarships. So far the scholarships aren’t enough to bring those school down into my price range. I’ve been getting 10-12K scholarships which bring the prices down to just under 30K… still way too expensive but I haven’t heard from 4 (of the expensive) schools so I guess I’m just waiting.

A good friend of mine goes to USC so there’s more then just the financial draw for me… and my parents like that it’s not so far away.

Anyone else get a call from Dr. Sorenson this past Saturday?

I got one
He told me that I was a Carolina Scholar.
What about you thiticalcrinkin?

I’m a Carolina Scholar too!

is anyone else a Capstone Scholar?

I didn’t get anything :(, but I got accepted back in November. I’m out-of-state (NY), have a 1360 SAT, decent gpa (LAZY!), and got some small merit scholarships from other schools (still haven’t heard from everyone yet though.) I applied to the marketing major and am still considering USC even though it will cost a lot (I’m definitely leaving the state though so I have to deal with that everywhere, I can’t take these northern winters anymore.)

I got in with a 1270 and a terrible GPA
No scholarships

oh yeah… I am going to USC next year.

Well now that most decisions are out, what are everyones decisions. I am going to be turning down Duke and Wofford to attend USC Honors. Y’all?

I’ve gotten in everywhere(with 10-15K a year at most) but I’m trying to decide between UMD, UDel, and USC… I got significant scholarships at both UDel and USC and I’m going to visit UDel on Friday.

We’ll see…

I’m still struggling to choose between Davidson and USC but right now I’m leaning towards Davidson.

You are a Carolina Scholar right?
Have you heard any more about the perks (laptop) or anything we would be getting?

Just that it is a laptop (my guess is Dell) and also special eligibility for research and study abroad grants.

Yeah I was thinking it would probably be a Dell also. That research and study abroad stuff that I heard about also sounds very enticing.

Would you all be willing to talk a little about these scholarships and the application process to get them? One of DD’s top choices is U of South Carolina (out of state). She is top 6% of her class, unweighted GPA 3.7, weighted higher but hasn’t been calculated yet. Junior year grades likely to be all A’s. Will be taking the SATs in May (hoping for over well over 600 on each section). She would love to qualify for something that would give her that instate tuition. She will also be auditioning as a non-major for a music scholarship (oboe) and has already been in touch with music admissions about this. Any info would really help. She will apply as soon as the applications are available.

If she gets any merit scholarship, she will qualify for instate tuition. If she can pull up her stats a little and make a good SAT score, she could have a good chance at Honors College and possibly McNair Scholars.

Thumper1, one problem with a lot of competitive scholarships for state schools has to do with the sheer number of applicants. Since a large number of people are vying for each scholarship, selection committees are forced to focus on scores a little bit more than they should have to or would like to. I think in order to get one of USC’s big scholarships (McNair is the biggest for out of state) I think she will need to get an SAT at 1400 or above. Everything else looks really good and I’m sure music will help.

BCgoUSC, in a complete change of plans I will be attending USC this fall. I’ll probably see you around at some point. Are you planning on staying in Maxcy? So much for Dell by the way; IBMs have really awesome features so I’m cool with it.
