So... who's got some advice on Sydney/Australia travel?

@HImom I definitely will!

@“Snowball City” good call. The last time I flew, I wasn’t on the injection meds yet so this wasn’t an issue.

Romani, I’ve traveled with injectables that had to be refrigerated. A cooler bag with a solid freezer pack will work (make sure you have meds with pharmacy labels). If needles are separate, carry them in the same pack (also with pharmacy labels).

I went overseas last summer with four boxes of lovenox injections. Noone at TSA or border controls batted an eye. If your injectables are shipped to you with sealed freezer packs, use those rather than ones you have to fill with water.

Make sure your hotels have an in-room refrigerator (not a given everywhere). Otherwise, when we’ve not had access to an in-room fridge, I’ve asked the hotel if I can put them in the kitchen fridge. Have never had a problem.

Check with your conference organizers about accessibility issues and places you can visit if you can’t manage the walk. Not every country is as focused on these things.

I leave tomorrow for a little over 3 weeks. Packing now and starting to get very nervous.

Wish me luck

Have a wonderful time!

Looking for an adult beverage? Go to The Lord Nelson Brewery Hotel (in Sydney). It’s the oldest pub in the city.

@eb23282 duly noted! We’re always on the lookout for some good breweries.

Good on ya, @romanigypsyeyes. (If that doesn’t make sense, it will once you’re in Australia.)

Also, stone the bloody crows, she’s a beaut, and other Aussieisms.

In fact, this is a hard-to-read text file and probably kind of outdated, but it’s a fun little book and will get you “hearing” the Aussie accent:

Lets Stalk Strine

(Let’s Talk Australian)

And when standing in queue at the bank, if the teller asks “all you alright?”, it doesn’t mean he/she wants to know how you’re feeling.

I hope you have a wonderful trip!

Have a great time!

Let us know if you were able to be comfortable enough on the flight.

Once you are there and settled I know you will have a great time. Three quarters of travel is attitude and yours is open to new experiences.

Thanks all. 5 hour flight, 5 hour layover, 14 hour flight.

Luckily the row is only me and those I’m traveling with so getting up and down won’t be a problem.

If it suits you, get some “alone” time and maybe a nap on that 5 hour layover - so you’ll be ready for the closeness of people for the next 14! May it all go well for you. (is this for pleasure or business???)

@abasket Both! I’m presenting at an academic conference in Sydney and then we’re traveling for vacation afterwards.

@HImom I see you guys are about to get hit with some weather. How’re you doing?

I’m glad I didn’t have a layover in HI but I’m worried about everyone there.

Go rock that conference girl! And then let your hair down and enjoy vacation!

Don’t forget (hopefully everyone does this), compression socks! Baby aspirin (should have started five days prior). Hydration, wiggle those feet around if you can’t get up enough! A stroke or pulmonary embolism for anyone in your group really ruins the trip. :frowning:

Drink water during the entire flight. I’ve gotten off long flights and my arms and legs are flaking, even when I’ve been pushing fluids.

Yea, fluids and moisturizing and stretching to help minimize risk of clots are all important. Drinking water alone is not enough.

Does anyone have a compression sock recommendation that’s Amazon Prime?
