Your local drugstore should carry them too. If they are like mine they will help to make sure you get the right fit.
Can’t give specifics, @Madison85, but I recommend you look on Amazon for highly rated compression socks 20-30 mm. Everyone has different opinions, but if there are plenty of ratings and stars, you’re probably good.
Excellent socks are Orthosleeve, but I don’t know if they’re on Amazon. Pricey, but top of the line. Their knee compression sleeves have been a lifesaver helping my husband with arthritic knees who doesn’t want to give up endurance athletics.
I used ones I bought on amazon and they worked well.
I’m here and settled in. Everything hurts but I survived.
First thoughts about Sydney: the drivers are terrifying!
CEP makes awesome compression socks. I believe you can buy them from Amazon as Zappos sells them. I personally prefer sleeves because they are easier to take off.
Yay @romanigypsyeyes! Rest up and have a great time!
How soon does your conference start? What has been your favorite moment so far?
How sad to hear that you are not interested in art galleries. Please don’t close your mind to gallery options if you are in a city that has a cool gallery or two. You don’t have to stay for hours, but sometimes a brief gallery visit can be a wonderful addition to a vacation!
I dunno- if she has limited energy she might as well spend it doing things that are meaningful to her. She is young and has plenty of years ahead of her for “should do”.
Sorry- staring at art just isn’t my thing. In the same way that I know reading all the history plaques (which I do) is more boring than watching paint dry to others.
My conference starts on Wednesday (I think- at least that’s the day our thingy is). It’s a HUGE conference. The person I’m co-presenting with (one of my best friends) has been here since the end of July so he’s been a semi-guide.
The sydney harbour bridge is literally the view from my front yard. We’re on the very tip of a peninsula called Balmain East. It’s so cool and beautiful. The ferry dock is 10 feet from my house so we’ve taken the ferry very frequently which has been fun. (The ferry is part of their public transportation system.)
We went to the Rocks yesterday and visited a bunch of street vendors. Now THAT art I’ll go explore- art where I can talk to the maker. My favorite things so far have just been the old architecture. I love looking at old buildings and streets- looking at how things have been cobbled together over the last 100-200 years.
I’ve been walking a lot and am definitely sore so I can only go out for a few hours a day. Which is fine- it’s better than I used to be able to do :). Today (Sunday) the public transportation has all you can ride public transportation for less than $3. So we’re going to do some transportation hopping around Sydney.
so jelly. enjoy! i wish you could post pix here.
@romanigypsyeyes I’m jealous though I was there in May. Go out and explore the gardens near the Opera house and check the historical plaques. The old prison tour close by the Ferry dock is a great short outing. Take the Ferry to Manley. Go whale watching with my son’s girlfriend who is a marine biologist on one of the whale watching boats.
@GTalum we were going to go to the zoo & gardens today but it’s rainy and cold. It’s definitely on our to-do before we leave.
The only thing I’m super adamant we do is hang out with the koalas- which apparently you can only do in some places now. So that’s our goal for Cairns.
If you aren’t completely booked yet for Cairns, you might consider Reef Teach. They have a lovely Evening Show which covers a lot of information about the reef. We attended after our snorkel tours and wished that we’d gone there before. http://www.reefteach.com.au/product/evening-show/
@happymomof1 not booked up at all. Thank you for this!! This looks awesome.
Make sure to see some crocs, too!
eh, skip the crocs. they just look like bloody big alligators. and they move fast. tooooo fast…

Sooo
How did the conference go? Did you enjoy the people you met?
I’m still here for a few more days
We leave Tuesday morning.
I have had a blast. The conference was kind of whatever because I didn’t go to too many of the events. Got some nice networking in though.
Sydney was absolutely incredible- though cold. Cairns was absolutely beautiful and I wish we could’ve stayed there the rest of the time. We just got into Melbourne last night so I’m taking a rest day. We’re planning on doing the Great Ocean Road tour on Monday and the Queen Victoria Market tomorrow.
I got to cross a few things off my bucket list: cuddle a koala (with pictures!), fed wallabies and a small kangaroo, snorkeled on the great barrier reef, and got to ride through a century-old train through a rain forest.
Melbourne has a great botanical garden. I still remember a tree that grew “upside down” and a bird that sounded just like a truck backing up. Phillip Island is close by and they have penguins. They all exit the water at the same time each night.
