So...will I make it through the crapshoot?

Hi,

Hi, I’m sort of new to this, so here it goes. I know a lot of people get annoyed (justifiably) when sophomores ask to be chanced, but I would just appreciate knowing where I am and what I’m lacking now rather than when I’m writing my app senior year!

Grades:

Freshman:
Algebra 2A and geometry A: A
French 2: A-
English: A
Introduction to Physics: A
Art and Social Change (1/2 yr hist elective): A-
Philosophy: (1/2 yr hist elective): A

Sophomore (so far):
Algebra 2b: A
Modern World History: A
French 3: A-
Quantative Chemistry (more difficult version at my school): A-
British Literature: A
Journalism (elective): A
Soviet Empire (1/2 yr elective): A

I go to an independent private school that doesn’t offer specific ap classes, but that claims
their classes are at the same level of difficulty (weird, I know). History electives are the most difficult electives offered by my school.

Extracurricular Activities:
Mock Trial (9-10): captain of b team (out of 4 teams) this year
University of Washington Experimental College (6-10): nongraded college like courses in literature open to the public
Cross-country and track (8-10)
Ballet (K-10)
Student Ambassador (7-10)
Facilitator (10): facilitate community conversations

Planned:
Continuing all of the above throughout high school
Recently offered research internship with pharmaceutical prosecution law firm
Helping coach special olympics team this spring (track) (and planning on continuing)
Writing articles for Real Change (newspaper that supports homeless) when I turn 16
Oh and hopefully/probably will be editor of my school paper senior year

One of the following this summer:
Accepted into free UW sponsored trip to Azerbaijan and DC focused on international relations
TASS (if I get in)
College courses at the UW

Is it okay if I don’t show a lot of dedication to one volunteer organization (special olympics) until sophomore year?

Thank you thank you if you decided to chance me!

First off, the whole point of a crapshoot is that you never know. It looks like you are headed for great things.
And yes, focusing on one volunteer is actually preferred. It shows you are dedicated, and not just doing it for the app.
Btw, at this stage, just try to do the best you can in anything. Dont worry about college stuff right now, it seriously breaks your mentality.

Thank you! I guess I’m not so much asking whether I will get in as I’m asking whether there are any major gaps in what I’ve done so far and your advice is duly noted. :)
